lately registered the assignment of a
patent of Mr. Thomas Patterson, _super.
intendent of the Stratford shop, for pre-
venting the eseape of cinders from the
smoke stacks of locomoties. The in-
vention is a very clever and ingenious
one, has been fund to work very well,
and not only reduces the danger of fire
to property contiguous to the track, but
relieves passengers from the annoyance
of the showers of black particles -which
find their way tlarough crevices and add
greatly to the discomforts of travelling
by rail.
