--Mr. Robert Logan, a farmer resi-
dent of the township•of Grey, but who
has been a resident of Dakota for the
past eight or nine. years, where he met
-with a large share of prosperity, rented
his property there recently and returned
with his family, a few weeks ago. After
spending some time visiting old neigh-
bors and friends he removed to G-oder-
ich where he will reside.
—If we are to credit the following
little episode which we take from the
New Era, they axe exceedingly guileless
and simple-minded people in the town
of Clinton. It Says : "0n Tuesday the
spring show of entire stock was held on
the Market Squire, it being considered
the moat convenient place. A citizen
coming down street, and seeing the .
large crowd asSembled, formed a very
different conclusion than the right one,
as to the 'cause of the crowd. "Why,
the Salvation Army has come to town
at last," he joyfully exclaimed to a com-
panion, "and they've got splendid horses
with them too; I'm SO glad, because
there's plenty for them todo here;
wonder where their band is, and their
women -prayers, and— "Why,, you
simpleton, this ain't the Salvation
Army," said his companion, 44 its a
stallion show." And the worthy citizen
was so taken back by his mistake that
he eat dowp, in four inches of mud
fore he realized what he was doing.'c
Then he rose up and—swore."
The Clinton New Era of last week
says: On Tuesday a meeting was held
in the Temperance hall here, for the
.purpose of forming a County Temper-
ance Association. Among the repre-
sentatives present were Messrs. D.Cum-
ing, Leeburn ; F. Metcalf, Blyth Rev.
A. E. Smith, Manchester; R. Adams
and A. Woodman, Londesboro ; A.Hale,
Clinton. The following motions were
carried: Resolved that it is desirable
to form a district county lodge, to em-
brace all lodges 7aow in existence in the
comity, with any other lodges that may
be organized in the county, who may
wish to join with us, It was decided
that representation to the county lodge
would be one to every ten members.
After some other minor matters were
attended to, it was decided that the
next meeting be held on the second
Monday of May, at 10.30 a.m., in the
Temperance hall, Clinton. A meeting
was held in the Baptist church, in the
afternoon, to consider the advisability
of submitting the Scott Act in this
county. Mr. Searle occupied the chair,
and a number of those present gave .
their views on the matter, All were of
the opinion that it would be asirable
to submit the Act, but there being so
many other meetings just at present
engaging the attention of temperance
workers, it was deemed best to appoint
a committee to confer with adjacent
counties, and learn what tthy intend
doing, and then call a convention to be
held in Clinton to make final arrange-
ments foronzbmittan' g the Act.
