-Last week Mr. John Williamson, of
Howick, who came to Blyth for a load
of salt, met Neith a misfortune. A
valuable mare, one of his team,
died while in the village. Before
leaving town be purchased another
young borse to make up his team, pay-
ing therefor the sum of $125,
-The choir of the Manchester Metho-
dist church gave a concert Friday even-
ing, 14th Met., which passed off very

readings, recitations, music, &e., was
given, the selections by Miss Harrison,
of Westfield, and Mr. Gracey, of Blyth,
being particularly well received.
B. Caldwell who has carried on

many friends of Mr. Caldwell will be
pleased to learn that he still intends re-
maining in the village.
-Mr. Neil Stewart, an old resident
of Ushorne, died on Sunday, the. 16th
inst. Mr. Stewart had been seriously
ill for some months so that his death
was not unexpected. He was kind and
obliging at all times, and will be greatly
missed in the neighborhood in which he
lived.
-The dam at Thompson & Co.'s mill,
Bayfield,was oarried away on Wednesday
night of last week, which will stop
operations at the mill for a short period.
Mr. Thompson says he will repair the
damage as eoori as the water lowers a
little and put rollers in the grist mill
making it equal to any in the county.
-The total receipts of the munici-
pality of Exeter for 1the year 1883
amounted to $8,276, and the disburse-
ments to $7,192. The year closed with a
balance of 01,744 in the treasury. The
collector's; roll for the year amounted to
$6,901. There was expended for County
rate, 6515 ; streets and sidewalks, $746 ;
salaries, $592 and schools $2,351.
-The total receipts of the Brussels
public school hoard for 1883 amounted
to $2,257 and the disbursements to $2,-
306. The year was commenced with a
balance of 8,121 in the treasury and
closed with a b•alauce of 6372. The
amount received from municipal taxes .
was $1,810 and the sum of • 1;51,745 was
paid fur teachers' salaries.
-Mr. Richard Carter, lot 29, 9th con-
cession, of Hallett, has purchased the
splendid Durham bull, Crimson Dake
2nd, formerly owned by Mr. Appelton
Elcoat, of Tuckersmith. He is red in
color, and is considered one of the best
