The Goderich Star of last week
ssys: The large mill of Messrs. Ogilvie &
Mitchinson in Goderich is now beiug
overhauled and rebuilt to allow the in-
troduction of the new roller process of
grinding. Some idea of the magnitude
of the lob may be had when we state
tthat about 35 melt are at work now, alai
ate work will probably not be com-
pleted until July. The cost is estimat-
ed at &boat 545,000, and the weekly pay
xoll now foots tip to about 5500. The
new machinery includes eighteen of the
/mons Smith's Purifiers, purchased at
Stratford, as we stated two weeks ago,
and the rollers and general machinery
will he procured in Montreal. The mil
will, when completed, be equal to any.
4:41-tilFeroCm°etthieeerneptort of the Minister of
3ancation the following fade are glean-
ed : The number of separate sehools in
this county, outside of the one at God-
erich, is three, with an enrolled mem--
bership of 206. The Goderieh separate

attendance of 67. The average cost oer

total number of children attending

was 17,536, over 9,00.0 being boys. The
total number of popis in Clinton . was
664, with an average attendance of 839;

-The latest swindle that has come to
• light transpired not mauy miles from
Winghane It appears that a would-be
drover celled on a farmer and purchast
ed from him a cow, leaviu•g a deposit of
$5. The animal was taken to the town
by the fanner, but instead of getting
therest of his purchase money, he was
told -that the buyer was out in the
try, but but would call at the farmer's house
with it that night. The farmer was
satisned -end returned home. However,
not seeing anything of either the men or
his money, the farmer went back to
town bright end early next morning, and
found that both cow and drover had.
disappeared.
-Mr. J, R. Miller, of Goderich, has
received from the Grand Lodge of the
Ancient Order of United Workmen, a
substantial recoguition of his services
as Grand. Master for the past year. A
comnaittee, accompanied by several
prominent members of the order, met
Ife: Miller at the Russell House in Tor-
onto last Friday, and there formally
presented him with te handsome and
costly silver tea service, numbering six
pieces and tray, also a beautiful cruet.
The seevice is one of the finest ever
manufactured by Woltz Bros. & Co.,
who have a well establiehed reputation
for that class of goods. Tbe presenta-
tion was inadeby Past G -rand Master
Badgerow, M.P.P., Mr. Miller replying
in suitable terms.
-The gentleman alluded to in the
following paragraph from the Pilot

in a short time the house was a heap of
stoouldering embers. The furniture in
the lower part of the house was saved,
but the fire spread so rapidly that the
household effects in the upper story
were deatroyed. The exact cause of the
fire is not known, but is supposed to
have originated from the explosion of a
lamp, which had been left burning up-
stairs. The loes and inconvenience
to itfr.Rollies and family will be consid-
