excitability in her, gloving cheeks:
She can hardly ketp quiet, even duriug

*leen out of school, she is the acknow-

one of very duffs nt type, with large
blue eyes, heavy , idded under a low
brow, l, with soft, air complexion, and
full fignre, she leans back in an attitude

There , is - another an unmistakable
beauty; regular features, orisp, curling
hair, rose -tinted cheeks, how pretty
he is ! So pretty that we older ones
ask, with a little anxiety at the heart,
What will her future be ; In the life that
oow seems to lie so fair before her, will
that " fatal gift of beauty" bring her
weal or woe? •
Let me tell you a story of other girls
and of their fates, as they were told to
me in a wandering reverie.
When I was quite a little girl, ',went
to a famous echoed conducted by four
sisters, whom we girls considered to be
quite "old. maids," since they were all
part thirty. Handsome women they
were,. every one of them, tall above the
b.verage-, with stately, erect figures, and
. au air of almost haughty aristocracy,
ewhiett they might claim, if any one
may, for they came of one of the 'brine -
est and most scholarly familes in the
country. For several years they con-
tinued their schot.1 dates without any
change, and then there came news that
astonished us pupils into a flutter of
trees swept the soft grass
circles.
