—The prOprintorti of the new grist
mill at Dominion City celebrated the
opening of the .establishment by a chant-
pagne supper on Saturday night.
—The Orangemen of Pilot Mound are
putting up a new hall at Hamilton.
The building is 18x24-, with 11 foot wall,
and will be fiuished before seeding.
—The people of Birtle and vicinity
mourn the loss of Mrs. Crerar, wife of
J. S. Crerar, warden, of Shoal Lake,
who died at her residence in Birtle, on
Saturday morning.
—Professor Wells, of the Rapid City
Standard, has been in Winnipeg oone-
piper in Moose Jaw. The prospectus
to be issued immediately, and publi-
cation commenced in a week or two.
—The town council of Portage la
Prairie will take steps to have the town
-limits extended so as to take in all pro-
perty surveyed into lots, and sub divid-
ed into town lots. This will increase
the size of the corporation to the extent
of six quarter sections, or seven hundred
sod twenty ease.
—The. streams of immigration are
already setting in various directions over
the broad preiries. No less than four-
teen teams loaded with new comers and
their effects passed throtigh Rapid City
on Friday last, going towards the Oak
River district.
—The mud on the Winuipeg streets
is isid to be too tenacious for anything.
It pulled off the hind wheels of a briggy
on Mein street ; it entangled the legs of
a raute to such an extent that the beast

Grain Trade.
LONDON, April 23,—The Mark Lane
axpress, in a review of the British grain
trade for the past week, says :—The
wheat crop has materially improved
during the weekt and trade has been
firmer. Flour was steadier. Barley
Was in favor of buyers: In foreign
wheats there was a small business. The
floating bulk is steadily decreasing.
Flour and maize were firmer. and oar -
goes off the coast inactive. There were
29 arrivals, 8 cargoes were sold, 9 with-
drawn, and 12 remain, including 9_ of
red winter and 2 of California. Sales
of Euglish wheat during the week, 54,-
556 quarters, at 41s 8d, against 36,138
quartere at 46s 3d for the corresponding
period of last year.
Live Stook Markets.
MONTRZAre April 24.—The best West-
ern steers sold at 6i.3 and second quality
5o to 54c ; third ranged from 313,to
per pound live weight. Sheep were few
m number, and sold fiom 35 to $12
each. Veal calves brought from 33 to
810 each.
