The fire was Paused by a steam thresher. Over 125 bushels of fall wheat and 15 tons of hay were burned, along with a separator, which was on the farm threshing. No in- surance. —The cheese and batter exhibition, under the auspices of the Western Dairy Manufacturers' Association,Thos. Ballantyne, M. P. P., President, was held in Woodstock on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 4th and 5th. The ex- hibit of cheese and butter exceeded that of any previous exhibition. --Mr. Isaac. Bucknell, youngest son of the late Samuel ,Bucknell, who re- sided near the Blaok Horse in North Durofriesehas been missing since the steamer Asia was lost. When last heard of he was on his way to Collingwood, intending to take passage to Manitoulin Island, and it is feared that he went dawn with the unforecinate Asia. —On the 26th ult. Dennis Talbot, a farmer residing in the township of Am- *11)BL:1:net with an accident that will in all probability prove fatal. It appears the enfortunate man was in the act of holding a refraotory cow, when the animal made a sudden spring, throwing Talbot down, and injuring bis back in such a manner as to completely para- lyze him from the hips downwards. —About thirty pergolas were poisoned in London on Monday last by head- eheese, purchased at the meat shop of one Johnson. With a, number of the patients the prostration was complete, and lor a time fatal results were feared. The prompt attendance of physicians, however, placed the affected ones in comparative safety. Two of Johnson's children were among the victims. —Last Sunday morning about 4 o'clock, Robt. Bradford, a farmer of the township of Dunn, in the County of Haldimand, while intoxicated com- mitted suicide by shooting himself with a. gun. He had. lately threatened to blow his brains out on his brotheriu- law refusing to go for liquor for hina. The coroner was called, but thought an inquest unnecessary. He leaves a wife and one child. —A man named Michael Fay, from Buffalo, was run over in the station at London on Monday. The accident is a moat unaccountable one. In getting off the train Fay's foot must have missed the last step and he was swung under the train, the wheel going over his thigh, almoat cutting it off. The am- putation had to be performed at the hip, and the patient only lived ten minutes afterwards. He was unman ried and about 35 years of age. t.!—John McMahon, the champion col- lar and elbow wrestler, and James C. Daley, the Irish -American champion athlete, met on Sept. 30, and posted $100 with Richard K. Fox, and feigned articles of agreement to wrestle for $250 a side, and a medal representing the ohampionship of 'mixed wrestling— c ollar-and-elbow, catch -as -catch -can and Bide hold -in -harness. The match is to be decided in New York on Oc- tober 23. —Baron Von Raub, Leon Springs, Bexar Count, Texas, has 8,000 acres all undey fence, properly sub divided and stocked with beautiful Shetland and spotted ponies,. His breeding stock consists of seven srallions and forty-five mares. He is breeding a race of strip- ped and spotted ponies to please the children. He sells the increase to per- sons all over the world, and the supply is not equal to the demand. These little ponies range over the prairies like sheep or goats—and present a novel appearance—very gentle, every one as docile as a cat, and. can be caught any- where on the range. —A curious point in the law on voters' hats, came before Judge Sin- clair at Stoney Creek on Monday last. A young man named. Marshall Hopkins asked to be put on the list as a fanner's son. It came out during the exa,miaa- tion that Marshall is living on a farm which is owned and run by his mother, who is separated from his father. The question then arose, "Is the woman a farmer for the purposes of the 'Voters' List Act ?" It appears that by the terms of a will or deed. of separation that the farro is owned by the mother and an elder son jointly. Decision was reserved. —The Walkerton Herald has been Shown by Mr. Andrew Waeehter, of Brant, the silver medal he obtained from the Agricultural and Arts As- sociation, Toronto, for having the third best managed farm in Groupe No. 3, which comprises the counties of Wellington, Perth, Huron, Bruce and Grey, This honor bestowed on Mv, Waechter, reflects great credit, on his ability as a, farmer.
