An engine near Grey - court lulled two unknown men. -The suit that has been in progress. for some years past between the Rev. Mr. Dobie, of the Church of Scotland, vs. the Temporalities Board of the Presbyterian Church, was decided by the Privy Council on the 20th inst. in favor of Mr. Dobie. This celebrated case, which deeply affects the Presby- terian Church, and more particularly the ministers drawing annunites from the fund, has been pending for three or four years, having gone through all the courts of Canada previous to going through the Privy Council, and it is satisfactory to know has been author- itatively decided at last. The ease was entered by Rev. Mr. Dobie, of Milton, Ont., on behalf of himself and the few ministers of the Church of Scotland who refused to go into the union, to obtain control, of the funds of the Church, which are now by the acts of union vested in the United Church. The contention is that the Legislatures of Ontario and Quebec respectively had no power to legislate, as they as- sumed to do in the aZts of Union, with respect to a fund drawn from both Provinces before Confederation, and held for the joint benefit of ministers in both Provinces, and that therefore the Acts were ultra vire& The judgment just rendered jeopardizes the stipends of the ministers dependent on the fund, but it is quite likely that the fund, amounting to somewhere about ,half a million dollars, will be distribut- ed according to an equitable arrange- ment to be entered into subsequently. This decision will no doubt lead to a vigorous revival of the interests of the itirk" in Canada. When the thunderbolt comes down, it appears to all, -is clear to all, and even after it has vanished we see, or think we see, a trailing glory in the skies. In the moral firmament there are discoveries which come before us with equal brilliancy and suddenness; isn't whether they all vanish, or become filed lights for all sueseeding ages, de- pends on their inherent truth. When Holloway announced that in two simple specifics, a box of pills and a box of ointment, he had discovered remedies for all forms of external- and. internal ailments, the public received his earnest protestation with a laugh, and deemed him one of those will -o -the - wisps who occasionally appear above the horizon, only to be swallowed up in that darkness out of which their folly induced them to emerge. But years passed n, and still the Star of Hol- loway maintained its place-thek only -fixed and immutable light amid the drifting clouds of medical fatuity and contradiction. It has enlarged its - sphere ; it has climbed higher towards the zenith, and now its rank, as the planet of physical regeneration is acknowledged by five-eighths of the human family ; and even those who do not openly profess their faith in it have a secret conviction that in its rays alone can safety from disease he found.
