-A very valuable horse was stolen
from the stal+ of Alex. McGregor, a
farmer living near Wingham. The
horse was taken about 12 o'dock last
Tuesday night. The police are on the
track of the thief.
-A large and enthusiastic public
meeting was held in the Town Hall,
Goderich, last Wednesday- evening for
the purpose of aisensaing the feasibility
of getting in another railway to the
town, and. to consider the advisa-
bility of the construction of wateiworks.
Mayor Horton occupied the chair, and
alter speeches by several influential
gentiemeU it was determined to use
every legitimate means to connect with
either the Credit Valley Railway, at
Elora„ or the Toronto, Grey and Bruce
Railway. A; committee was struck to
work out the details of a railway scheme,
and also to enquire into the ccst of
conetructing an efficient waterworks
system.
--The stage driver on the route be- Chatham and Rondeau, named.
Little, absconded last Monday night
with a package of money which he was
entrusted to deliver to the Merchants'
Bank at Chethana, by Messrs. Jackson
& Failer, bankers, of Blenheim. The
package coetained $2,000. He also
embeieled about $250 from his employ-
er. The police are after hira, and a re-
