Mr. Brown, the con- tractor, has sublet the first section of twelve miles, the engineer has set out with four parties of surveyors to survey and locate the line West of the Assini- boine river, and it is confidently ex- pected that fifty miles of the road will be graded this fall. The Winnipeg Times looks hopefully forward to the extension of the road westward to the Rooky Mountains; and as it will run the whole distance through a very fer- tile country—without an enormously expensive beginning and ending, as in the case of the Canada Pacific—the knowing ones profess to think that the Southwestern people have one of the most valuable pieces of property on the continent. —One day last week, as two sisters were coming south on the railway track, near Toronto, one being in ad- vance of the other, the first was met by a man who asked the road to the city.
