The skins are worth a $2.50 at the camp, so that the yo masa has made a pretty good thing his rifle. Two other men who along with Mr. McKay, and who h had more experience at the busin kilied about $1000 worth each. —A glass dress is being made Fanny Davenport in Pittsburg. It be a full toilet evening suit, and. process of making is such as to give work the appearance of fine Fre satin, only that it is much more b lint. The dress will have a long tr of woven glass, and it will be ea ately trimmed with glass lace. make what is called the glass clo from which this suit will be made, glass is first spun into fine threads then woven. There is nothing to co pare with the progress ef this age.' _"Now, my boy," said a guest a Lindsay hotel, "bring nae up a pits of nice drinking water, and I shall g you something nice." Thinking t something good was in store for hi the boy travelled a whole block to the best water to be had, and bring it to the gentleman's room was offe a cent for his trouble. The boy look at it for a moment and then returned to the donor with the remark; nDo give it to me all at once; put it in t bank aud let me live on the, interest it." He was rewarded for his wit b ten cent piece. —During the consideration of t Dominion Lands Bill in the Comoro Mr. Wiser made the important nouncemerat that he proposed to p chase a herd of Texas cattle of seve thousand head in extent, as a. nucle of a large ranch to be established in t Canadian Northwest, if proper encou agement were afforded to the scheme the Government. Sir John Macdona assured him that the cattle would admitted free of duty, and that t Government would give every reaso able assistance to the scheme. —The publishers of Endynaion pa too dear for their whistle, and it is sa that Lord Beaconsfield has offered cancel the agreement under which th bound themselves to pay him $50,000 and to be content with half the profit But the offer has been declined. Th sale has not nearly approached. to th original expectation, and circulatin libraries are reported as selling copie at half price. Itdvas a nine days' won der, but it is already among the things r of the peat. Even having been Premie of Great Britain does not necessarily make a good novelist. —A_ gentleman now and for many years past a resident in Galt, enticed by the splendid prospects of the Northwest, has determined to give up a luxurious home, sell his valuable property at a sacrifice, and go into the grazing busi- ness in the Bow River district. In writing to a friend in Winnipeg he says am busy just now buying up first class grade heifers and thoroughbre bulls, and think I will be able th show you the best lot of young cattle that have ever been taken into your country. We expect to leave here about_ the end of May, or the first week in June, with about two hundred head of cattle and some sheep, —On the day before the Litta concert two young ladies went into a certain store in Guelph, and asked to look a some feathers. They picked out two and asked permission to take them home on approbation. Being respect- able young ladies, they were allowed to • do so. The next morning the feathers were returned; they would not suit. On the same day another young lady entered the store to look at some feath- ers. Picking up one of those that had been on approbation, she said : "Why, that looks just like the feather Miss So -and -So wore at the Lista concert last evening." Tableau—An astonished dry goods man, who immediately went into a room in the rear of the etore and registered a solemn vow never to let feathers out again on approbation. —Frog farming May yet be one of our most prosperous industries. We read that Eugene Blackford, the great New York fish dealer, tells a correspondent that New York consumes more frogs to- day thasa Paris. "We frequently sell to our own customers over 200 pounds of frogs legs a, day. They are on the bills of nearly all our hotels and restaurants, and. are held in great esteem among epicures. Anybody can eat, them, for they are just like chicken, in that they have no peculiar taste." "Where do you get your frogs ?" "Maiely from Canadia where they are raised in great quantities for city markets. Three frogs will furnish a pound of meat ; and we get 20 to 35 cents a pound, so it pays pretty well to raise them. We keep a large supply on hand all the time. They are caught in nets or with hooks baited - with a bit of red flannel. --The American' pulpit has been found fault with for speaking severely of,Sara Bernhardt. But while she was in London, Canon Wilberforce, 8011 of the Bishop of Oxford, in a sermon in Westminster Abbey, described her as having "dared to come to London, bringing her illegitimate children with her, and flaunting her skirts in the very face of royalty." Then, turning on the Prince of Wales, he said : "It is the nation's disgrace that Britain's future Ring should so fai forget what belongs to the dignity of his station that ' he should visit this omen in the theatre green -room and steak face to face to her in flattering words." Then, in clos- ing, the Canon said : "0 how deeply - . virtuous England regrets the premature death of the good Prince Consort! Had he been living to -day, this could never have happened." —From the report of the Agricultural commission the following facts are given concerni ug Huron County :—"The settlement in this county commenced in 1828, and this being the case it will be seen that wonderful progress has been made. In reference to the price of farms, the report says that first class farms sell at $50 to $60 an acre ; second class, at $30 to $44 ; third class, at from $15 to $20, and that farms rent at from $2 to $3 an acre, which is rather lower than generally. In Hullett and Tuck- ersrnith 80 per cent. of the farmers use plaster or salt as fertilizers of one sort or another. The total acreage of the county is 795,829 acres, of which 440,- 338 are cleared, so that the county is nearlfhalf bush yet, As many as 900 of the cultivated acres are devoted to ax. The skirt \vas short, its fulness gather- ed at the waist and trimmed with puf- fing of fine.silk tulle about the lower edge. The body was a round bodice, low in the neck, and with short ruffed - sleeves, edged with rare old lace. A lace fichu was thrown about the neck, caught together in front with a knot of roses.
