Gibson, Reeve ,'of Wroxeter, be Warden. , On a. vote being taken, there voted for Mr. Kane 24, and for Mr. Gibson 22. Mr. Kane was consequently declared elected, and resumed his seat at the helm. In a neat speech he thanked the Council for the honor done him, and hoped. he wouldperform the duties to their satisfaction and in the interestti of the county. - I THE SELECTING COMMITTEE. After the ordinary routine business, the Council proceeded -to ballot for the Selecting Committee, whose duty it' is to select the standing, committees for the year. The ballot showed the fol - g members elected to 'compose committee, viz.: Messrs. Hardy, ter, Bell, Hays and Elliott. The cif then adjourned until 3 o'clock aesday.. the Council assembling at the ap- pointed time on Wednesday, a, cdm- munication from the County Council of Elgin, in reference to conveying prison- ers to the Peniteneiary, was read and referred to the Jail and Court House Committee. THE AUDITORS. Mr. W. N. Watson, of Seaforth, was appointed by the Council a coanty au- diton' and Mr. Archibald Dickson was appointed.. the other auditor. BOARD OF EXAMINERS. Messrs. Malloch, of Clinton, and Gregory, of Exeter, were reappointed on the Board of Examiners for the ex- amination of schoolteachers applying for certificates. THE ABOLITION OF MARKET FEES. A memorial was read from the Coun- ty Council of Welland, asking the co- operation of the Huron Council in peti- tioning the Legislature to so amend the Municipal Act as to deprive municipali- ties of the privilege of imposing market fees. Mr. Wilson moved, and Mr. Weir seeonded., that the memorial be received and filed. Mr. Hannah moved in amendment, and Mr. Black second= ed, that the Warden and Clerk be in- structed to memorialize the Legislature in conjunction with the county of Wel- land, for the purpose of abolishing the powers of cities, towns and villages to impose market fees on farm and garden produce. After a lengthy discussion, the motion was carried on a division by a majority of five. :4MIBCELLANEOU--S BUSINESS. The Clerkwas instructed, on behalf of the Council, to convey the thanks' of tlhe Council to the Directors of the God- erich Mechanics' Institute for their kindness in offering members the use of their library and reading room while in session. The Clerk was instructed to procure twelve pairs of handcuffs for the use of the townships of Hay, Stan- ley, Hullett, Howick and any others where they may be required. It was resolved to allow a Mr. Hawkins the use of the county spile driver free, pro- viding he returns the same undamaged when done using it. The clerk was in- structed to correspond with the Clerk of Middlesex, to tknow if it is the inten- tion of that Council to let the contract. of the Sauble- bridge, on the boundary of Stephen and McGillivray, at their present meeting;, and if not why, and when will they do so. A communica- tion from Lieut. -Col. Otter, eking for a grant to the, Ontario Rifle Association, was referred to the Finance Committee. A motion instructing the road com- missioners to inspeot and if necessary to have the bridge on the boundary line betweeu Howick and Carrick built, pro- vided the County of Bruce or the town- ship of Carrick pay ' one-half the ex- pense, was referred to the Road and Bridge Committee. The usual grant of $100 to each of the County Model Schools, was ordered to be paid. The report of the Selecting Committee was read and ordered to be laid on the table, when the Council adjourned until ten o'clock on Thursday morning. ' TatrR`DAr, January 27. On assembling and after routine busi- ness, a memorial from .the County Councils of.
