The Bidduiph Trial.
The trial of James Carroll for the
lewder of Judith Donnelly came to a
close on Saturday night, after having
lasted tete whole week. The jury, after
deliberatingfor over four hours, failed
to agree:a.nd were discharged. Seven fire, which was 165
were for acquittal, four for a verdict to his aou's house,
of guilty, and one could not make np where he found his

Lordship reviewed the entire ease with
`melt care, and drew conclusions from
the testimony which, as readers of the
speech \'ill observe, were by no means
fevorable to the prisoner. The jury,

to dismiss the verdict. Having had no
food since morning, being unable to

pared with the evident anxiety of the
prisoner, who, when the trial was com-

takable signs of a change of opinion in
that regard. -

sued the Donnellys. When it should

its readiness to judge of a charge with-
out first enquiring into it. Had these
