TIIE Boss Colts•,,—Cur old friend, ' Mr.
Wm. Arbuckle, of the London ood,
near Hensall, has left with us som of
the finest ears of corn we have een
this season. Several lof, them meas red
12 inches in length, and they averaged
from 7 to 9 inches around, and all of
them were evenly filled to -the very top.
We had half a mind Ito take them to
the, show and whip out all the corn_
growers inthis neighborhood, but we
• didn't. Had Mr. Arbuckle shown them,
however, we are surd they would have
taken a prize.

were as busy as milers the whole day

the largest and best display we 1have

good deal... The hall was • visited and

indicate a splendid show, and al ;very

NEW GEooRAPaT.--i Loveil's ad anted
geography, for the nee of school and
colleges, has.be.en issued by the pub-
lishers, and we have no hesitattoon in
pronouncing it superior to anything of
the kind yet published. It is strongly
hound in flexible oo$ers anl' the paper
is of first-rate quality. In typographic
execution it is faultless, and the . maps
are tastefully colored, and though well
filled up,: are: not over -crowded; with
details. We heartily recommend the
"advanced geography" for High School
students and for pupils in the higher
classes of our Public Schools. -
Fon WL BLEDON. — Mr. Alexander
Wilson, of this town, is one of the for-
tunate marksmen *hose skill entitles
him to membership lin the Wimbledon
teem for 1881, The team is composed
of those who made the highest aggre-
gate scores at the relent meetinof - the
Dominion Rifle Association at Ottawa, .
• and is composed o twenty members.
Mr. Wilson stood ninth on - the list.,
We congratulate o young friend on
his success, and we have -every confi--
dense that when he' goes to Wimbledon
he will do his, share • to maintain' the
credit of Canadian Marksmen, and will
also win distincti n and honor for
himself.
REMENYI - CoAnNG.-Remenyi, • the
greatest living violinist; with his com-
• pany of talented ists, is billed to . ap-
pear in Cardno's H Il, on the evening
of Saturday, Sept° _, ber 2n. • The Tor- draught starlit
onto Globe says : "No musician who and the othe
• ever visited Toronto secured a stronger both of the Cl;
hold on the musical public by his three `remarkably A
appearances here.' The Hamilton
Spectator says: "The Mahamu.edans
' say 'there is but one God and Mahomet
is his prophet,' and lovers of music say
that the king of instruments is the
violin, and that Remenyi is its master.
It is not our intention to criticise, but
it is sufficient ,to say that from the mo-
ment he appeared cin the stage he held
the -audience spell -bound."

A QuESTIONr--Mr. Editor—Sir : I
world ike the following question an-
swered by those in.
that tiie bakers ofm
tie to charge the
when wheat has g
third in price ? When wheat was $1.25 to
$1.30 .a bushel they charged 12 cents a
large loaf, and the same price is current
now and wheat only 92 cents. The
millers' are not to blame, as I am in-
formed. they reduced their price in ac-
cordance with the decline. Surely this
can't be another of those .monopolies
(only on a small scale,,bat still sufficient to
interest all workingmen) which seem to
flourish under the N. P. ? Appearances
would seem to indiate that such is the

RETURNED.)V!Tr.. Thomas Nott, of
Iullett, returned from his trip to
Algoma last week He travelled •a
good deal through the country and the
more he saw of it t e better he liked it.
Re brought ome with him several
samples of grafi whish are really
excellent. . A 1 the settlers he met with
were well sat sfied with their lot . and
are doing well. He now has a son
located about twelve miles above Bruce
Mines, and another son intends remov-
iug there shortly. 1Mr. Mason, of 'Hut -
let, accompaniedMr. Nott, and he was
so much taken up with the appearance
of the country that he intends selling
his farm in Hallettas soon as he can
and removing ther: The crops there
this year are splendid, and will yield
better than here. Mr. Nott has kindly
left with us ;several samples of grain
grown in that district, which we will be
glad to allow any one who may desire to
see them

retinue of mourning creditors.
DIED.—We r.egret to chronicle ihe
rather sudden deeth of Mrs. Francis -
Noble, which took place on the leth
mat. She was but 30 years of age. Her
children have lost a, loving mother, her
husband a faLthful helpmate, and 'so-
ciety a sterling friend. Mr. Noble has
the heartfelt Elympathy of the en ire
community in hie sad bereavement.
Acciearte.--A few days ago, as Mr.
D. j. McCaseY was assisting in raising
a frame straw house, he had the rais-
fortune to get one of his fingers badly
crushed. The inineed finger was very
painful for some time, compelling him
to leave off work fot five or six days.
GOOD WORE.—A 'piece of clever work
was executed here a few days ago by
the Messrs. McCasey and W. 11.
Cloakey. These three men, without
any other aseista, nce, took down a frame
straw house 3020 and raised it agiin,
the timbers being nine inches square.
This work wae doe.° for Mr. W. Young.
