--Mr. Roger Cole Relddicliffe, for
some time resident in Stratford, died
with terrible suddenness last Monday
afternoon. He had promised to make
bis old friend, Mr. Campbell, at the
Beaver Meadows, Gore of Downie, a
vi8it, and the afternoon being cool and
pleasant he took a walk out, arriving at
Lis destination about, 4 o'.clock. He
looked fresh and well - as Usual.. His
friends shook hands with, him, and in-
gnired how he felt. He- replied—
enevei better," and he had no more
than tittered the words when he drop-
ped dead on the spot, from apoplexy, it
,is presumed. Deceased was an old
and respected resident of Stratford,
having resided in that vicinity for
over twenty years, during the greater
part of which time he lived in the Gore
of Downie.
—During divine service in St. Joseph's
church, Stratford., last ` Sunday, Rev.
ether Kilroy referred in feeling terms
tothe late Father Schneider,for whom
&requiem Mass was announced. Father
Schneider is ,kindly remembered by all
the old.settlers, Protestant and Catholic,
with whom he d preserved the most
friendly relations. Dr. Kilroy describ-
ed the good old roan as the • pioneer
priest of the Huron Tract—the last of
the great missionaries of Western On-
tario—who had often travelled on fo t -
over these large counties, sometimes
losing himself in the pathless forest;
:and sleeping all night in the open air ;
often glad to dine upon the fragments
left on the woodsman's frugal board. and
again obliged to read his office by .the
dim light of the early settler's fire. He
possessed many simple, heroic virtues
which far outweighed his human faults,
and his name will not soon be forgotten
. in these counties.

lured into a house of ill -repute. He ad-

'noon last, while playing in a game of

—Last Sunday moning the deadbody of a woman was ,found floating in
the bay at Toronto. She was a wo-
man of about thirty, in the prime of
womanhood, with regular and interest-
ing features. She was dressed in
mourning,, and her hat and clothes
were trimmed with crape. No one
seemed to know anything; about her.
No one recognized or claimed the body.
From appearances it was supposed to
lie a case of suicide.
—The whole of,the wreck of the Tay
Bridge has now been raised, and the
river is again clear of all obstructions.
The work that, according to those who
were thought to be reliable judges, was
to occupy twelve months, has been
most successfully accomplished in leas
than half that time,. bad weather and
other unavoidable detentions allowed
for. It is estimated that 6,000 tons
weight has been raised from the bed of
the river in pieces varying from one ton
to 300 tons in weight. The amount of
perseverance and hard labor involved
in handling such a contorted and ravel-
led wreck in a .current like . that of the

a Baptist congregation in the Prairie
Province. After the introduction of
the land regulations the congregation
became dissatisfied with the manner in
Which the development of their settle-

They became infected with the Dakota
