—Mr Jails Pollock, P. . S., an
Old and mu h respected resident of
G -alt, died on. the 9th inst. The de-
ceased. was in the 71st year of his age
and had beena resident of Galt since
1849.
—A young Miss of Port Hope of the
mature age qf sixteen, eloped with a
Toronto drptiamer the othert day. She
will be likely to have plenty • leisure for
repentance, and plenty repentance for
her leisure hurs.
—The froscatchers and frog export-
ers of Campllellford are reaping their
harvest just i now. Two men packed
143 pounds of this food and shipped it
for New York a few days ago, and this
was one•week's work.
—The grete4 swimming feat ever
accomplished on the Detroit, River was
performed a few days ago, when Geo.
W. Burnhain, of Detroit, Swam from
Hamtranacklto Fort Wayne, a distance
of 51 miles in. 2 hours and. 22 minutes.
—Arrangeaents have i0611 made
with the Roos Manufa.ct ing Com-
pany, of Gat, for the removal of their
shoe factory to Walkerton. A by-law
granting then a bonus of $5,000, will
be submitted to the ratepa ens in a few
days. I
—The public school boar in Paisley,
have reduced the staff of teachers from
five to four, retaining three of the old
teachers at increased salaries. By the
new arrangement a saving of nearly
200 is effected over the expense of pre-
vious years.
—Recently a farm hand in the em-
ploy of Mr. H. Glazebrook, of Simcoe,
was driving ,zi. horse attached to a gig,
when the animal got the line under its
tail. He reached over the dashboard
and fell out alighting on his head. His
neck was dilocated, and he survived
but a few minutes.
