This course has been adopted for financial reasons. - , —The Stratford School Board have determined to do away with the County Modelchool, as the experiment was found to terfere with the efficiency of the publi schools. —The annual fall show of • the North Perth Agricultural Society, is to be held at Stratford on Thursday, 26th inst. South -Perth show will be held in St. Marys -on the 12th and 13th of October. —Mr. John Corrie is forming a joint stock company in Stratford, for the purpose of establishing waterworks and procuring -a supply of water for domes- tic purposes from the little lakes east of the town. . —The Logan township Council have leased the gravel road, running north of Mitchell, to a private person, who in- tends erecting toll houses and collecting tolls on it. This will be hard on the business of Mitchell. —Daring a thunder storm last week, the barns and contents, belonging -to Mr. R. Christie, of the first conces- sion of Elma, were struck by lightning and totally destroyed by fire. e' .Loss $1,600, partially insured in the Water- loo Mutual. —A short time ago the Listowel Pub- lic -Salim -1 trustees advertised for three female teachers for their school, and received 5.6 applications. No more close com- petition in rates for Stratford. —Mr. John Warren, an old and. much respected resident of Elms township, died on Thursday morning of last week from the effects of an accident which befei him on Monday last,=while on his way to Carthage. They are situated upon the kith and 7th Conces- sions three miles and 'a quarter from the gravel road. -At a special meeting of the Direc- tors of the Mitchell, -Fullerton, Hibbert and Logan Agricultural and Horticul- tural Society, held on Wednesday; the llth inst., it was decided to change the days of the annual show to the 27th and 28th of September next, in consequence of other .shows con- flicting with the time previously agreed upon. —During the storm which passed over Ellice on Tuesday afternoon of last week the bent of Mr. James Bur- net, concession 16, lot 8, was struck by lightning; and with the contents and some stags of Wheatand barley, en- tirely consumed. So rapidly did the fire spread that it was with difficulty a horse whichtwas in the stable was got out. The loss is estimated at about s•sSo.
