traction was Signor Kennedy and two

nedy's pathetic, patrictic, and. humor-
ous powers, and his vocal tone, are
spoken of in highly laudatory terms."
—Cornwall Town Council engaged a
small -pox nurse, a Miss McKane, with-
out any agreement as to wages. She
did her work faithfully and well, but
when her patients were declared out of
danger she displayed great recklessness
in shaking Out and scattering the bed-
clothes used at the hospital. Excite-
ment grew till the Mayor and Council
•waited on Miss McKane, and begged
her to leave. She astonished them by
a demand for $1,000, or she -wouldn't
stir. She was placed under arrest, but
when brought before the Police Magis-
trate no charge was preferred against
her, and she was released. She was
asked to draw on the town treasurer for
$100, but declined to compromise for
less than 55,000. •
