Ex .tertainment and I ,,• pr ove-
raent for Sfnart. B ys.
BY REV. W. W. SMITH, EA ON.
To the Editor of the Huron positor.
Bite Anxious that our s r4 art, well-
edicated boys should have .oth enter-
tal meat and instruction for the winter
evenings, let me tell them, though your
co mus, of the "copying pad," and•how
to se it.
t is a German invention, and has
n well known for a year or two, and
if ybody pretends to have secured; a
pa ent for it, all I can say is that he is
a humbug, and does not deserve to have
hiS claims respected. You get two
ou:ces of white (or very good - glue, and
. six onnees of glycerine. So k the glue
all night, and then melt it as- a
o pouter melts his glue in a small ves-
sel I set in a larger easel of
walteer, and heated. Add ' . e glycer-
in and pour out the mixture,
wh 'ch makes a stiff jelly Have a
sh llow pan/—zinc is best— ke a pie
p_ , just the size you want, I recom-
me d the size of a half -ghee of fools -
ca . The jelly will be half a• inch or
so nthickness. Have it :mooth if
not, melt and "run" again. Now, get
purple ink, or better, buy th magenta
crystals ;. 10 or 15 cents' wort'• will last
yofii a year ; merely add soft water.
Write pretty heavy and car fully, and
wb n dry lay down the writ' ng on the
4pg , and smooth it carefully- with the
had. Remove it with care, and you
havle a perfect impression, (re ersed) on
- the jelly surface. Now put n a dry -
sheet of paper, smooth it ov r, and re
mdve it after a few second , and you
have a good copy. You can t ke many
copies before it gets dim. I k ow a lad
of 113 who publishes a newspaper for
himself- and friends in this way fort-
nig tly. He says he is going to issue
wee y soon. These are considered as
. prig ed circulars, and go though the
mai as such at one cent. The only ex-
pert a afterward is paper. Good print-
ing aper will do, or this nice wrapping
pap r (costs 8c per pound) you some-
tim s see. Rut the first writing should
be o foolscap and better to . e written
only on one, side. You can, if you pub-
lish paper, have the imprssions on
both sides. Now, let some s • art boys
in • ages where there are no printing
res es, start such a paper at one cent
two when mailed), and amus :; and in -
pro' themselves. 1 oontribu a ..to one
