The Duty of the Season.
Mn. EDITOR,—Sir : When an enemy
threatens our possessions, it is the duty
of every one to meet him on the frontier
and drive him back, but- when he is
permitted to enter and take possession
of the citadel, the only resort is siege.
A cordon is drawn closely around him
and all supplies cut off, but should pro-
visions be allowed to enter 4 some un-
guarded point, the siege may be pro- -:
surreud er.

Such is our condition with
our inveteit.te little en(im

adopted by every farmer, by;hiot sowing
peas and beans fora season, we will
not be able to dive .tin oft, nor raise
any more fine Calisadi n pork.
- Some may thinkithat by sowing early
or late they may -escape its ravages, but
such is not the case, for entomologists
tell us that the bug eats only'= dry real
and therefore never attacks a pea until
it is ripe; or nearly so; ,that ,"t will wait
until its food,is in proper r condition
that it is not particular whether, the
peas are in the barn, the fied, or the
bin ; nothing short of iron,' copper, or
close wooden vessels charged' with gas
tar; or creosote, or some Poisonous sub-
stance, will effectually bar his entrance
in warm weather. Uucler ;t1 e circum-

fanner to abstain from sowing peas or
beans for- one or two seasons, and rid
the country of this -pest. earn or bar-
