Nine out of ten persons would pass it unnoticed, and yet it con- . tans a museum of wonderful, interest to the naturalist and of much profit- able instrnetion to the general student. Thc. shop is the workshop of a lapidary, lir:Samuel. R. F. ',There are a great many ; but it is ,rising how little people know con- cerning them. We have in Canada as beautiful specimens of their kind as you will find an.ywhere. Now you p rha,ps do net know that there are such tones Quebee diamonds, which aro yeally rock crystals. I have one specimen here whieh I will show you," and the s °akar produced a beautiful crystal of. intense beiaiancy and whiteness. There- are some which an ordinary person could not tell at first from a dia- mond. The one you now see," he cone Untied, "is jut as it was found, -it has never been cut; most of them have the same appea.cance." "What ( tiler stones are there peculiar to Canada, ?" "The Ottawa, district contains quite a number of them. Here, you observe, is a specimen of Labradorite, so called because it was first found on the coast of Labrador by the Moravian mission- aries, sixty years ago." The sample submitted was a com- mon looking stone of a dull greyish ()odor, but when held in certain posi- tions exhibited a beautiful opalescent lustre, of a deep, rich blue, far superior to any manufactured shade it is possi- ble to find. At certain times- all the colors of the rainbow are reflected upon its surface. "-Very little is known of this beauti- ful stone," observed the lapidary. "I believe the Prince of Wales had a set of jewellery made from it -so I have been told. It is strange so little should be known of this beautiful stone. If fashion were to introduce it to society, society would soon become charmed, for, as you see, it is very lovely. "Where are they found?" "They are generally elides boulders, and great care is reqtu choly story, and visibly affected the hundred. or more spectators who had 'crowded to the platforms, as usual upon all 'occasions of leaving 1 passenger on a, siding. About twelve months since I made a bracelet of Canadian agates set in gold, and they were equal in ap- pearance and polish to any stone used. for the same purpose. Tile fact is we shall never know how rich this country really is, uutil people begin to find sent how much they need to get out of it." A Bride's First Impressions of the Treeless Wild.s of Dakota. Yesterday, in coming up the road, I witnessed a scene which to a "States man" could not but have a melancholy, though romantic, aspect. There was a bridal couple aboard the train. He was a pleasant, intelligent appearing young man, with evidence of a farm training and a fair education. She was as fair as Maud Muller the day the Judge met her in the fabled. field; of evidently far superior_ _training' to her sturdy cons rt, she was one of the love- liest and. brightest a,nd gayest brtm ttes one may meet in years of long exte ded iatuits. She had. a bandbox, evidirnt1y Containingher summer hat; a g Aar carefully wrapped in an embroi ered bag, of a workmanship so exquisite as to surely have been her OW11 ; a 'Music roll, a shawl -trap incasing two or three of the latest novels, and all the miscel- laneous satchels and bundles with 'which the average young lady possesses herself on a pilgrimage to the sea shore or on a tour to Aunt Betsy's among the rural hills. The brakeman hoarsely called "Four- teenth Siding." There was not a build- ing in sight save the one roomed. 6 by 10 shanty barracoon of the switchman, and. the eve lost itself trying to fathom the dreary beyond. This was the stopping place for the bride and. her groom. He -was taking her to his new homee'fifty miles back° on the plains; but there was no one to meet them as expected, and the thread-like trail dis- appeared over the horizon, five miles away, with no -sign of greeting -team. It seemed like a dark revelation eto- the poor girl ; it was her first test of de- votion to her husband -and a severe one. On, being lifted, down from the ear steps. Slfe gazed around in .The ut- most dismay; then, with a quick, be- seeching glance into the young man's face, down which the sympathetic tears Were streaming, despite his evidently brave resolutions, the bride of the. Riains sank Into his arms and. sobbed -aloud. The scene told its own melan- e. DR. POWLER's EXTRACT OE WILD q STRAW- BE:um-This preparation stands peerless as it remedy for all summer eninplaints.
