happy to say his injuries were not of a
character to incapacitate him for his
meal duties.
-While Mrs. Woods, who keeps a
small grocery in Fordwicb, was at the
presbyterial], church last Sunday, the
store was entered by a door in the rear
of the building, and seven dollars in
change was taken, besides a quantity Of
jewellery, the property of Miss Mary
Woods, her grand -daughter. The burg-
lamalso took a copy of a will of Mrs.
Woods', which will be Of no use to them.
-Constable Woods, of Listowel, as-
sisted by constable Youill, of Goderich,
arrested a Mrs. Prior in Goderich on
Wednesday, for beingan accessory,
with one Anstie, to defrauding some
parties near Guelph of $500. c'Anstie
was manager of a creaniery ; Prior was
his housekeeper. She had. her own
and some of Anstie's baggage at Lee's
warehouse ready to move by first boat.
She was taken to Listowel. Anstie
cannot be fotmd. .
-During the heavy thunder storm
which prevailed in Molesworth section
about ten days ago, Mrs. John Broad -
foot had a horte killed by lightning.
The electric fluid struck the stable near
the roof, and passing downwards split
one of the rafters to pieces, killing one
horse and stunning another at the same
time. The injured one has not yet re-
covered from the effects of the shock.
It was fortunate that the barn and
stable did not take fire.

boxes of factory cheese were offered to-
day; 9,000 boxes were sold; leading
price ranged from 50 to 51c, one lot Only

UTICA., N. Y., Sept. 1.-6,700 boxes of
cheese sold, 3,000 consigned; leading

INGERSOLL, Sept. 2. -Sixteen factories
were present, representing 8,041 boxeS,
mostly August neake. 1:800 boxes sold;
1,400 at 6c, and 400 at 5-ic, August
make. Several factories were present
who did not register their offerings.
Several factories li-aye sold August since
last market day at 6c. These prices
look speculative, as the cable has de-
clined to 29s.
Live Stock Markets.
MONTREAL, Sept. 2. -There was a
much larger market than usual this
morning and sake were pretty numer-
ous. Ald. McShane bought 20 heed Of
fine cattle at $42 each. Ma, Dennis
sold 28 Lead of cattle at $35, and 81
hogs at $4.75 per cwt. live weight.Dr,
Cochrane sold 30 hog e at 64.75 ; weight. -
Bros. & Collins purchased 110 steers.
averaging 1,200, at 4.c. delivered and
weighed here. Mr. Cusack parted with
his load of 20 cattle at 3ta. A load was
sold to Samuel Price at $31. per head.
George Robson is shipping 100 head of
choice cattle and 500 sheep by the
steamship Viking, which leaves here on
Wednesday. This stock was all parches -
ed in Western Canada, the cattle cost-,
ino from 41c to 5c live weight, and the
sheep nearly 56 per head. John Chap-.
man disposed of 'a load of cattle and
sheep as follows: Four ,oxen, '150; 6
heifers, 125;$ 4 heifers, $-50; 18 sheep,
$60. It is thought that the shipmente
during September will fall off slightly,
but they will be much heavier in Oc-
tober. Prices in Montreal -Cattle, 30
to 44c, live weight; hogs, $4.60 to $4.70.
TORONTO, September 3rd, 1879.-a
CATTLE. -For export cattle. consisting
of steers of 1,200 lbs and upwards;
prices ha-velbeen steady at $4.50 to $4.75.
Second-class, consisting of light steers
and heifers and heavy oxen and bulls,
have continoed to be wanted, but have
not advapced any further; the range
for them has remained at $3.75 to $4.25.
Third-class have shown no change, end
have continued to sell at $2.75 to $3.25.
SHEEP. -First-class for shipment, Con-
sisting of wethers averaging 130 lbs and
upwards have heen less wanted, but
still bring from $4.25 to $4.37 per cent-,
al, or $5.50 to $q.50 each Second-class
have been in deeidedly slow of sale, and
prices weak at $3.75 to $4.50 with too,
many offering. 'Third-class have been
almost unsalable, and prices nominal at
$2.75 to $3.50! LAMBS. - First-class
have continued in good demand at
steady prices; any averaging from 40
Ibsrupwards have been readily taken at
from $3.50 to $3.75, the latter for pick-
ed. Second-class, however, have been
abundant with offerings in excess of the
demand and prices easier at $2.75 to $3.
Third-class, consisting chiefly of culls,
has continued abundant, weak and slow
