Five Ways to Remove Mildew
from Linen.
(1) Wet the spotwithlemon juice,theu
read over it soft soap and chalk mix-
edtogether, and spread where the hot-
test rays of the sun will beat upon it for
811 boor, If not entirely removed re-
peat the operation. Or wet with clear
lemon juice and lay in the sun ; or soak
for an hour or two and then lay in the
fin. Or mix soft soap, powdered starch,
and half as much salt together, and
moisten quite freely with lemon. juce ;
spread this on both sides of the. spots
and spread in the sun. As soon as it is
wet the spots again with the same
mixture, lay in the sun and repeat the
-operation until the spots disappear.
newl'Y spotted once wetting will. be
sufficient. 0 r wet the spots in chloride
of lime just dissolved in water, and
read in the sun a few minutes and`
then rinse. Repeat in case tke mildew
is not all removed ; but do not let this
preparation remain but a few minutes
at atime, before rinsing, even if the
process has to be repeated several times,
as chloride of lime will injure the cloth
if allowed to remain on it long. (2) -A.
solution of eloride of lime is the only
thing I ever found. to have any effect
upon that very ugly and tenacious stain.
Atsblespoonful of the dry chloride to a
.wart of soft water will give the neces-
sary strength. ' Soak the article in the
solution from ten to twenty minutes,
then dry in the sun. Repeat the process
till the stain disappears. The time re-
quired will of course depend upon the
intensity of the stain. If very deep and
of long standing a little stronger' solution
may be required. (3) Get the dryest of
•chloride of lime you can buy, and for
strong fabrics dissolve four tablespoon-
fuls of it in one half-pint of water, Let
the mildewed article retnain in this
solation about fifteen minutes. Take
it out, wring it gently and put imine-
-diately into weak muriatic acid, one part
acid and four parts soft water. For
delicate fabrics the solution Should be
made much weaker ; thre or four
times the quantit3 of water hould be
put to the lime. Let the arti le lie in it
-only five minutes and thon p t into the
muriatic acid. Instantly wash thor-
.ougbly in cold water. (4) Tak4five cents
worth of lime, dissolve in a pail of
water, and put in the clothes and let
them remain three or four hcurs, then
wash and all the mildew will disappear,
(5) Rub well with soap then serape fine
chalk and rub it also on the cloth ; lay
it on the grass as it dries wet t a little.
it will come out after twice repeating
the operation.
• Sensible Remarks.
Property is the product of labor. It
must be hewed out of the fore t, plowed
out of the field, blasted out of the mine,
pounded out of the anvil, ought out
in the factory and furnace. Labor is at
the bottom of it all, and the nation in
which there are,the most laborers, and
in which labor is the best cherished
and cared for, must be the rl,cheat and
most prosperous. Capital and, labor
are natural allies. When the work to-
gether both are enriched, whe they are
hostile or separated, both su er.—Ros-
coe Conkling.

New York Idiot in Fill) Dress.
From the satin -covered uppers on his
patent -leather shoes to his white flan-
nel hat with a blue ribbon, hiS. ' i get-up"
was remarkable. A cream -colored pair
of trousers formed the foundatipu for a
blank, three -button cut -away coat, the
tails of which were lined. with red silk.
His gloves were green, while his blue
tie and ebony cane completed the attire.
This is no fancy picture, but he above
thing was really seen. The earer was
tall and handsome, and showed no signs
taste in I
of insanity beyond his siugula
