in London fo six years lie removed to
a farm which he bought . in the town-

-his remarkable mechanical talent by
constructing a reaping machine,a thresh

he retired Gix the death of the latter.
Mr. Pringle was a man of great ;original
.genius. B'Psides the organ already re-

first Meth8dist Church, in St. Thomas,
and. he began and completed another
,for his own use after retiring from busi-

Au Artistic Trick.
An ATOMIC= has secured au art treas-
ure :under peculiar l.eircumstances. A
Frenelinian. while travelling on therail-
way with art Italian painter, confided.
to him the fact that he was the possessor
of a veritable Pincturricchio, which had.
been handed down to him as an heir
loom. The works of- this old master
who was bern in 1454 and died in 1513.,
are extremely rare. The .Louvre only
possesses onie copy, a Virgin and child,.
andconnoisaeurs. aro. even doubtful .of
its being genuine.. The picture of the
French gentleman showed great signs of
age, and was in want of being -carefully
restored. The Italian having examined
it undertool :the task. At the -end ef
month the icture was. returned to its.
owner perfedtly restore.d, and the Frenli-
man. who Considered.. himself a gr
connoisseur,paid the Ita1itn hands° -e-
ly for his skill.. A short -time afterw rd.
&friend, who really was a geed judg of
art happened to pay a visit, and str ek
with the pinta:re which was hang ati in
a handsome frame in the post of honor,
,exciahned : "Why, you have had your
Pinturriceltionopied,.;' The pietnre was
taken down, and the panel being turned
rood; showed the unmistakeable signs
of age in its. worm eaten condition and
the grain of the woed. The friend, as-

The Kitchen.
If you find it necessary to have the
the floor bare, oil it well with :linseed
oil, and yoti will save many a, weary
• hour. One thing always spoils the
looks of a kitchen., aud that is :the olcl
clothes hanging in it. Make a cupboard,
cattain . it, driving nails : inside
for all clothing that has to be kept
in: the kitchen. Paint the wood -box
and all the;wood work in the kitchen,
if possible. li Lead color woal be hand-
some. 1.),) not forget that curtains
are nice' br the kitchen as well as
parlor.
The kitchen should be the sunniest,
cheeriest spot in all the house, for there
thebest hoUrs of ma.nytiwomen's lives are
spent, andthe few glimses of the out -door
world they 4et seem a. bit of fairy -land
to be treasured and dreamed over. To
them the word kitchen brings a weary
sigh, and. is synonymous with labor
and toil that; amouuts to drudgery.
There are others that look upon " our
kitchen" with lingering fouduess for
the very word. It is to them a place of
real enjoymeut, -where cluster the
busiest and most useful hours 1 of the
day. I
