Atrocities by Ciroassians.
Eight Ruigred Persons Smothered.
AboRt the following most horrible,
abominable and -unheard-of • crime, in,
itself a colossus of savageness, a whole
abyss of atrocity, I have most authentic
and reliable information, though. for the
sake of humanity I should have been
gladwere it otherwise.
It appears that the inhabitants of the
village of St. George, 800 souls in all
Greeks entirely, flying before the Cir-
eassiarts who ha.d attacked and. destroy-
ed. their villages, managed. to hide them -
.selves in a large cavo near Kara Dere.
The Circassians, ever thirsting for Chris-
tian blood, were scouring the countryin
search of victims, and fina ly fell upon.
.ana discovered the 'place of refuge of
these unfortunate people, and. iramedi-
.ately tried to effect an entrance into
the cave. In this however, they were
baffled, the entrance to the cave, being
well guarded and. bravely defended by
the refugees.
This show of resistance on the part of
the people, and the fact, •perhaps, that
three of their number were raortally
wounded by the shots from within seem-
ed to exasperate th.em the more, and
'after two or three further attempts to
effect an entrance, but without success,
they determined by any possible raeaus
to put immediately to death those with-
in. They accordingly set to their infer-
nal work, and by -means of crowbars
they ultimately succeeded in opening
a, hole in the roof a the cave through
which, without loss of time, they, pro-
• ceeded. to pour a large quantity of brim-
stone and asphalte, to which they set
fire by firing their guns through the
hole. As a consecpience the inside of.
the cave was in a few minutes filled
with smoke so dense that the people
dropped down ene by one of suffocation,
* ' and the souls of
800 martyrs fledalinost inetantaneously
towards the foot off the throne of their
Creator, the Aliseighty,
Out of the 800 who entered the ckve,
ordy eighteeu were saved, almast by a
miracle), having on first entering the
cave taken their stand at the furthest
end of it, and having, after the Circaa:-
gams had taken themselves off exult-
ing no doubt in their abominable work,

Prince Radziwill, a member of one of
the best families in. Europe; and. an-

-"When Moody arrived at New Ha-
ven Saturday and was entering a car-
riage, the hacknaen standing- around
sung, "1 arn glad salvation's free." "Do
you mean it, boys S" he asked, and when
one replied, " Yes, sir !" he added fer-
vently, "' Go. bless you all." The

;-The. Rev. Dr. Thomas • Chalmers
wrote very illegibly. When minister of.
Kilmany he despatched letters weekly
to his parents at Austruther. • There
was ;generally experienced considerable
s difficulty in deciphering his eonamuni-
cations ; but one letter proved an abso-
lute puzzle. It was at length.ruled. by
the divine's mother that the 'letter
should be laid aside "that -Tarn, when
he cam', might read it himser."

tions of piety," says a Persian -writer,

meditate ,and pray, and read the Koran.

-A. Methodist Bishop in Texas en-
joined young clergymen against marry-
ing too young, and in. the eouree of his
remarks made the following observa-
tions: " Young preaehere with cleau.
shirt -fronts and finger -nails are above
par, but shoal(' remain single until they
have finished their studies. If a young
minister marries a beautifnl you,ng lady

-A. daring robber snatched 635,000
of registereebonds from under an old
gentlembee's arm who was within a
stone's throw of his own house on Mad-
ison avenue, New York, Monday after-
noon. The owner, Sohn P. Moore, had.
just purchased the bonds down town,
and was congratulating himself on get-
ting them safely home. He gave chase,
but was hindered by aceomplices of the
thief, who plied. him with questions.

BRYAN'S WAFERS (the great public rem-
edy) have now been in use over twenty
years, hence it cannot be said that they
are on trial. They have been thorough-
ly tried and pronounced (on the author-
ity of those whose lives and healths
they have preserved) to be a sure,harm-
less and eminently salutary preparation,
and. if taken in season will invariably
cure colds, catighs, Sore throat, and all
bronchial affections. One fair trial:
