Live Stock Markets.
MoNeneAL, Feb. 5.—Although 46 head
of the best cattle on the market last
week were shipped to Britain, yet the
local demand has been so light that there
is no scarcity, but rather too many cat-
tle on the market ; several drovers
having sold only a few head of cattle.
So few sales were made this forenoon
that it would be difficult to say if there
is any change in prices from last week;
good cattle sold. from 31c to 4c pier lb.
M. Loport, of Toronto, sold 8 oxen, at
$54 each, or 3o per lb ; R. Craig, of
Brampton,sold a pair of oxen for $125;
7 steers at $35 each, and 2 milch cows
at $20 each ; R. I. Hopper sold 4 oxen
for $239, and 4 steers for $200. Mr.
Hopper also sold 4 steers for $163. A.
Dow, of Waterloo, sold only 1 steer, for
which he received $41, or 3c per lb. G.
Denoon, of Toronto, sold a bull for
$37. Dressed hogs sold at $5
per 100 lbs, by the car load.
TORONTO, Feb. 7. — First-class have
been weak ; we understand that soma
lots to arrive, have been offered at $4,
and very choice selections alone • would
go as high as $4 50. Second-class have
been weak in price andcannot be said
to be worth over $3.25 to $3.50, Third-
class are very slow of sale at any price
some are said to have gone off as low as
§2.50 and none are likely to bring over
$2.87. There have been sales of a lot of
steers and heifers averaging 1,150 lbs, at
537; a. lot of mixed, about the same
weight, 536; a lot of 11 mixed averaging
1,150 lbs, at $47.50 ; - a car of mixed av-
,eraging 900 lbs, at $27. There is a car
o
f steers averaging 1,300 lbs, sold at
-44.75, but this must be regarded
$s an exceptionally high p>aice
and not likely to be repeated.
.Sheep. --First-class sell fairly well at $4
per cental, live weight, or $5 50 to $6
per head, the latter for choice only,
Second-class are slow of sale at $4 25 to
$5, but must dress not less than 65 lbs.
to bring those prices. - Third-class are
not wanted. Lambs --First-class or
picked., dressing 55 to 65 pounds, are
taken readily at $4 60 to $4 75, or per-
haps $5. Second-class, dressing from
40 to 50 lbs., are easy at $3 62 to $4, the
latter for choice only. Third-class are
not much wanted, but usually change
hands at about $3.
