taunt of e r ass o e Inspector, r.
Miller, He will, however, with .the as-
sistance of Mr. Strang, of the Goderich
High School, who has kindly consented
to act; endeavor to hold them during the
first week in July.. Farther notice will
be gent to teachers in a few days.
—A number of gipsies have been in
Goderich during the past week, all seem-
ingly in good circumstances. Two Qf the
families rode in gaudily painted wagons,
and drove good teams glorying in silver -
mounted harness. All seemed to enjoy
themselves, from the red-faced burly
leaders down to the agile little young-
sters.
--Mr. Theobald, hotel -keeper, Teeswa-
ter, comingfrom the race -coarse at Wing-
harn, on te 24th, was driving very rap-
idly in his sulky down the hill on Vic-
toria street east, when he was run into by
a lumber wagon -going the opposite direc-
tion. Mr. Theobald received { severe
bruises by being thrown out, and the
sulky was badly smashed. -
--.It is said that the Mayor of Clinton,
on behalf of the town, has made applica-
tion to the London, Huron and; Bruce
Railway Company to allow parties, from
all stations north as far as Belgrave, and
south as far as Hensall, to go. to Clinton
and return home on Saturdays for one
fare, - This would: aid materially in.
building up the business of that town. -
-Early on Saturday morning lest, the
roof of Mr. Fair's saw mill, Clinton, was
discovered to be on fire, and although it
had made considerable headway,r the
alarm and response to it, was so quickly
made that its progress was Stayed, and
was shortly after completely extinguish-
ed. One side of the roof was. much
bunted, and will require renewal.
—We noticethe following among Mon-
day's telegrams ? " Lightning struck the
chimney of a frame house, occupied by
Dr. Carder, -Delhi, on. Monday, and de-
scended to the floor, damaging the house
to a considerable extent, and shocking
the family severely, burning the foot of
Mrs. Carder to perfect blackness." Mrs.
Carder, the lady alluded to as being -in-
jured is a daughter of Mr. Richard
Thompson, of McKillop.
—A most painful accident Occurred at
Dungannon on the morning of the Queen's
birthday. Mr. Wm. McArthur, an es-
teemed resident of that village, as has
been his custom for many years past, was
firing an anvil salute about 1, o'clock in
the morning, and as an exphriment, he
filled the nut :,f a wagon patent axle with
powder, and laid it upon one anvil, and
placed another anvil upon the top, and
touched the charge off withia red hot
bar of iron. The nut burs into four
pieces, one of which struck 'Mr. McAr-
thur's right leg, ihflicting a severe cut,
and then lodged in his leftknee almost
severing the leg and breaking the bones
in. a fearful manner. The piece of iron
was about 2 inches long, 1) niches wide,
and .1 inch thick. No one was present at
the time, and Mr. McArthur lay on the
ground in agony for some time, when he
managed to crawl to the hotel door, and
arouse the inmates. Drs. Gardiner and
McKay were summoned as ,speedily as
possible, and the inj u red limb was suc-
cessfully amputated, and Mrs McArthur
is recovering slowly. The other three
pieces of the broken nut were found, one
goingthrough the wall of Black's hotel,
another penetrating Vciiinaeott's hotel,
and the third passed along the road and
knocked four pickets off a: fenice.

Speciality of the Best Pianoto and Organs
in the Canidian market.
CELEBRATED PIANOS.
Never before has any piano been sub-
jected to such close criticism and severe
tests by friends and. Theo as have the
above named instrumento. The scale,
being so radically different from any
other, so ingenious in its construction,
and. producing such wonderful power and
purity of tone, has attracted the atten-
tion and admiration of mechanics, phi'.
osephers arid musical critics ; and. they
h ve therefore been looked -upon as inno-
' v ions by manufacturers and dealers in
ot er Pianos, who, being unable to find
in them any weak points for assault, have
en eavored to storm them by uniust as-
sertions. But after ten years of thorough
trial of the one, and Twenty of the other
the manufacturers are enabled to prove
that they have more than vindicated the
highest hopes of their friends, and are
fast silencing the guns of their enemies.
A'trial is all that is required to thorough-
ly convince the public of these facts.
