MACHINE FOR MAKING EAT: EELs.--A
new patent Machine for making baaTels
is at preseet being built by Messrs. Gol- •
die & McCulloch, of this town, to the
order of Mr. Philip Volmar„ of Seaforth.
The machine has been tried, both in the for
United States aed Canada, and is cap-- teo
able of turning out from 500 to 1,000'
complete barrels in one day. The ma-
chine was invented by Mr. Greenwood;
of Rochester, and ,is patented in both the
United States and Canada, but by an
ar-rangement witia the patentee, Mr. Vol -
mar has secured the right to set one up
in Seaforth, and it is nowl being manu-
factured, as • aboVe stated; at Goldie &
McCulloch's. We hope to learn that

from his tour to Scotland On Tuesday
last, looking as hearty and. jolly as ever.
M r. Carmichael enjoyed his visit im-
mensely. lie visited manylof the places
of historical nate; and took home -with
him, many souvenirs of these places. He
alao brought a fine bunch of heather in
run bloom, which he had gathered from
the Seottish hills. Mr. Carmichael says

This Presbytery met in Seaforth on
Tuesday Of last week. The following
are some of the itema of 'bosinees tram,

The Clerk reported that affairs between
the congregation of Duff's Chuach, Mc-
Killop, and Mr. McDerniide their late
pastor, were amicably settled.
The session records of Wyllie Multi);
Brusaels ; -Knox Church, Brussels; Eg-
mondvillo, Wroxeter, MeKillop N(S 1,
McKillop- No.• 2, Cranbrook, &a., and
Baytield, were examined and attested.
Danby was appointed to Moderate
in a call at Egruoildville on Ozt. 27, at
11 A.M.; and -Mr. Brown to moderate in
a call at Duff's Church, MeKillop, onthe
same day andat the seine hour. Each
congregation promises' tolpay a stipend
of $600 per anaum, with a manse.
The supply of the Miseion Station in
Stephen was left in Mr. Giacey's hands
for the ensuing three months.
Mr, Goldsmith,' On behalf of the Com-
mittee appointed to draft a suitable
minute anent Mr. G rahans's translation,
submitted the follawieg millet°, which
was adopted:, "The Presbytery, in part-

Grey Plowing Match.
The Grey plowing match was -held on
the farm of Mr. Robert Dickson, Con.
11, Grey, yesterday (Thursday.) The
weather was most agreeable, and the at-
tendance both of plowmen- and spectators
was large. The land was in fair order,
and excellent Work was made. At the
conclusion of the match, the plowmen,
judges. and some of the guests were en-
tertained at a bountious supper provided
for them.by Mrs, Dickson,: The follow-

evenings ago, and; having been refused
lodgings at several of the hotels. ad -opted
the navel plan of window breaking, se as
to be taken into ,Oustody, and thus get
lodgings. 8he Sent two large stones
through a pane of .plate glass in the door
of a drug store, 41ili then crossing :the
street put her foot through a large pane
of glass in the window of . another store,
breaking it to fragments, This pane of
glass was very large and had cost $100.
The woman was arrested by the police,
and obtained what she so Much desired,
-lodgings- in the police cells.
THE :BEECHER ISCANDAL. -SO far, as
can be learned, there are to be an endless
series of legal actions growing out of ithe
Beecher scandal case, but to one knows
when they are. to -be commenced. Mr.
Tilton has brought an action against Mr.
Beecher to recover damages for the wrong
alleged to have been done him; Mr.
Beecher has bitought an action against
Mr. Tilton; a lady has brought an ac-
tion against Moulton; Mr. Bowen .has
brought three-aetions against the Brook-
lyn Eat/e; Moulton threatens an action
against Beecher; a lady has brought an
action against the Daily Graphic ; Til-
-ton has brought an action against the
World and the Tribune; a Grand Jury
has indicted Tilton and, Moulton, and.
Mrs. Tilton threatens to publish another
statement.
