I rather liked the czar:mach. With
Ms bull -dog, thick -set head, round fea-
tures and up -turned nose, he is not an
Apollo, but he is tall and manly in
figure, and looks as though he had de-
cision of character combined with sense
of humor, for there is a twinkle in his
eye that denotes the good fellow. They
say that he is more _ liberal than his
father, and is intensely Russian in feel-
ing. In his household, Russian is the
only language tolerated. At his card -
parties he extorts a fine from every one
who speaks a word of French, and a
doable fine for the same amount of Ger-
man, his imperial father not being ex-
cepted from the rule of , forfeits.! Then
the cgarowitch is writing a history of
the Crimean war from a Russian point
of view, and, wken at home, helds 'audi-
enees with Crimean ,soldiers, efeiy aay,
from ten to twelve; listening ' to their
stories anclirecording their grievances.
This makes him Popular.. Palley the
Prince of Wales writing a hook about

the czarowitch is a Much more hopeful
specimen of royalty than the II use of

higher for his chanees of a long reign.
than for those of the Prince of Wales.
Princess Mary of Cambridge is exces-
sively fat and forty. I She has a reputa-
tion for jollity which she feels, obliged to
keep up, and the weal in which her royal
stoutness posed for her character was
most amusing. Where another woman
would beckon to a man, she clawed him
with a bouncing familiarity that may be
delightful coming from a Cambridgei, but
which, :generally, is considered ' vulgar

Teck, who looks like a German `Igarconl)

ally leaned by way Of showing to
the
gasping populace that she wasn't proud- 1
