This lack of food is telling heavily on
the yield of milk, and if the'drouth con-
tinues, will unke a serious ilroad on the
cheese product, The quantity of cheese
made up to this time is much less than
the corresponding time last year. Al-
though the price of .cheese this year is
higher than for the same time last year,
the quantity is so much less that farmers
do not feel very much encouraged,
especially since the prospects of grass
are so poor., .11 we do not haverain soon
the hay crop will be light.

than the heavy good cattle. There was

The market to -day is decidedly dull,
the views of holders being generally
• above those of buyers.
The offerings of facthries were about
2,500 boxes, and 15c. -was the top price,
• with one exception, the New-ville, which
went at 15-c. Buyers for a long time re-
fused to go above 144'c., but near the
• close of the market a quarter more was
reached for " fancy grades."
We give the leading transa,ctions, as
follows : Keys, 32 boxes, at 141,e-;
Manheim, 60 boxes, at 14-&-c.; Manheim
Turnpike, 11c.; Manheim Centre, 90
boxes, 14c.; Mialdleville, 150 boxes, at

The quality of factory is iraprovmg,
" the skims " having largely gone for-
ward. Farm dairies continue to be poor,
the bulk being more or less skimmed.
The delivery :butter is failing off rapid -
1Y, and prices are lower, the sales to -day
of best being only 27 c. ; fair to good. 22c.
to 25c.
The weather in Herkimer is eold. aucl
dry. The trees are not yet in leaf, and
grass comes forwarcl very slowly. Far-
mers from all directions- report hay
