Mr. Diddlehem on tne onis
.Question. .1.
The following remarks on the best
mode of securing railway bonuses, were
made by Mr. Diddlehem, before the Pro-
visional Board of the Port Humbug and
Fleecem Railway, Mr. Potbelly in the
chair : Ten, thousand ya7-ds of those wefl-Lmin
‘` Gentlemen, : Experience makes fools
wise. I was green myself once, but my
experience in the was a tooth
cutter. Yes, 1 got my idnes of human
natur considerably elevate by the time

the filet half dozen. bonuses was fixed up.
Gentlemen, don't be afeard, stick on
-good stiff bonuses; never less than $30,-
000 ; big licks or nothing, is the talk, for
a mottor. 'Push matters from the start;
don't lie, but walk round the truth al-
mighty quick. Do up the trick m three
.months, for lies come home to roost, and
it shakes chawbacon's idees, if he finds
he's been made a fool on. Yes, old.
AND TOWEL,
ffernespon is apt to getrusty and kick TOVIELS ING
th
up ugly, if he finds the big man of e
consarn keeps a grocery and ain't been
squeamey about sticking to the Sixth
Commandment. Go in - for the bell
wethers of a township' Doctors nnd
lawyers is mighty good at leading the
bone and sinner into a trap! A few hun-
dreds goes a mighty long way with Saw-
bones and Nobrief. Hold out a trustee-
ship to the hull lot. One bait will ketch
the krowd-Reeves gees off cheap. I
have seen 'era get as low as $50, but
some, as happens to be greedy cusses,
and have got a sniff at the pot, may. go
as high as a round thousand. Don't
stick at trifles however, The bull se-
cret hes in stopping mouths, and a big
mouth takes a big tater. li you *ant
$40,000, don't it pay fustrate toigive $5,-
000 in oiling human natur ? Umneilors
is easy fixed up. A few new $10 bills
is a mighty niceway of getting over hob-
jeeshuns, and frighten the cusses by tell -
em if they don't support yees, they'll
get biist up next eleeslitin. Farmers is
easy got over. Tell 'em they'll get 10
cents' a bushel more for their wheat, and
they'll drive like sheep. A smart young
chap or two to go round to singing skoad
or quilting;s with the farmers galls,
piles up. Tt's 'greeable to the young
fellers' feelin's, and it's a mighty nice
way of getting the pettykotes over to
yer side."
, Here Mr. Diddlehem's remarks came
to an abrupt termination by Mr.
Shurcher, the Secretary, announcing the
arrival of Mr: Doem Brown, at the head
of the deputation from the township of
Intheygo.
