-THE MARKETS.
SEAPORT), Sept. 19, 1812,
During the past few days considerable
grain has been. delivered on the Seaftrth
;market, although not quite so much aS
.luring the corresponding period last year;
Prices are now good. As high. ae $ 2$
was paid for wheat on Thursday, but the
quoted figures was the prevailing p ce.
Oats are scarce and in good deman at
quoted figures. barley is also scarce nd
anxiously looked for by dealers. There
does not seem to be so much= barley'= in
the country this season as there has been
for several years past. Peas are 4rm
at quoted prices and are readily bought
up. Butter also is in good demand at
quoted. prices. Of tan -bark there is gut
little coming into the market. There
has not been a tenth part of the tan-
bark sold this season that there was
last. What the cause of this is we are
unable to say, We quote :

NEW-YORK HORSE MARKET.
TUESDAY, Sept. 17, 1872.
The autumn trade in horses.appears to
have been fairly started.` and there has
been an active traffic in all that range
under the category of work and business
horses, and prices were well maintained.
Canadian farm -horses sold at from $125
to $200 per head ; stage and railroad -
horses sold at from $140 to $195 per
head ; ordinary work -horses, not over
16 hands high. sold at from $150 to $200
per head ; prime truck horses, over]16
,hands high, sold at from $250 to $400
per heard. Although there has been no
lack of inquiry for fine pleasure horses,
there were but few transactions conclud-
ed, and averaging at from $1,200 to 1,-
:500 per pair for large and. stylish coach -
horses, and from $800 to $1,000 per pair
when of smaller size and lesser quality.
The sales at public auction were, as a
rule, well patronized. The second of
Messrs. Johnston & Van Tassell's regular
demi-weekly sales was particularly suc-
cessful, the stock brought to the hammer
having been very desirable, the attend-
ance numerous, and the prized realized
very fair.
