SHIPMENTS PROM SEAFO tali TO NT A 'NI- TOBA.---Ottr enterprising townsman, Mr. W. Scott Robertson last week sent a large consignment of Cheese and butter to Fort Garry, Manitoba. Mr. Robertson received the orderfrom a mercantilefirm of that place. It speaks well for our. dairy 1,roducts when euch far-off dealers go to so much trouble to procure them. • CHANGE OF BASE —Mr. T. K. Ander- son, merchant tailor, has purchased the stock of hats and caps; ani gents' fur- nishings of Messrs. J. Duncan & Co., and ha,s removed his tailoring establishment . to the premises recently ocdttpiedby the above firm. Mr. Anderson has now much more commodious premises than formerly, and intends still further ex- tending his business. RAILWAY EETING.---A meeting of those favorable to extending the Toronto, Grey and Brime Railway from Wroxeter to Bayfield, via Ainleyville, Seafortb, Brucetield and Varna, was held in the Town Hall, Seaforth, last evening. The meeting was numerouslpattended.by in- fluential men resident along the proposed route, and all seemed sanguine that the enterprise as above stated could and would be successfully carried out. • EXPLANATION.—Rev. Mr. Starr de- sires us to make the following explana- tion of Mr. Room Kay's non-appearance on Wednesday evening last: On Mr. Kay's offering his services for the even- ing in question his offer wasimmedliately accepted by letter, and his programme requested, and no reply being received he was coMmthunicated -with again, bnt up to this time Mr. Starr has heard nothing from him, and now fears that neither letter has reached him, owing, probably, to his being constantly engaged govhig readings in different places throughout the court try. - TROTTING MATen. --The trotting match between Mr. Bell's " Gray Eaele" and Mr. Polley's " George "I came off on the Seaforth Driving Park, on Monday, and resalted in favor of Gray Eagle. Both horses are good. animals; and the race was closely contested. The first • heat was won by Mr. Polley's horse,. but the last three heats were WOU by gray Eagle. Gray Eagle was driven by Mr. T. A. Sharp. The fastest time peach was, we believe, 2.44. A running race also took place between VariEgmond.'s brown. colt, "Shoo Fly," alid Crits' gray horse, " Gipsey." Half mile heats, best three in five. The gray horse took three straight heats. The attendance., of spec- tators, conm sidering the unber Who left town in the morning, was quite large, and much interest was taken in the races, especially the former. ANOTHER -Tam -TING R ACE. —We un d er- stand that (another trotting racehas been arranged to come off on the Goderich course, on Thursday, the 29th inst., be- tween Mr. Polley's George." Mr, Bell's "Gray Eagle," and Mr. Forbes' `t,"White Swan." . :The latter animal is owned in Stratford. The amount to be competed for is $150, $50 dollars being put up on each horse. The race to be mile heats, best three in five. The first horse to take $100, and the 8econd $50. The Seafortb. and Stratford horses are to be allowed for their expenses -in travelling from. these places to Goderich. Suzinax Seism, Pre-Nro.---The child- ren attending the Wesleyan.4,N*Iethodist Sabbath School, of this village, together with their teachers and parents, spent the holiday on Monday, picnicking at Baytield. Some eight or nine carriages left here in the- morning, laden with the light-hearted pleasure seekers, and preceeded to Baytield, where a very pleasant day was spent. Baytield is now becoming more renowned than ever as a favorite resort for pie-nic parties. There is namely a week but one or two parties from different parts of the County repair to that place. It would be difficult, in- deed, to find a more suitable place for picnicking purposes. - - THE HOMO 4.Y AND EXDURSION.--Tha holiday on Monday last was very gener- ally observed, all the principal business places being closed during the whole day. A large number availed themselves of the. opportunity afforded by the excursion to Goderich of enjoying a, sail on Lake Huron. In the morning a large crowd of men, women and children, assembled at the station, all bent upon enjoyment. There were 310 excursion tickets sold. The ride to and from. Goderich was neither pleasant nor comfortable owing to the lack of car accommodatima there be- ing only" two passenger cars on the train. A very agreeable day wa spent in God- ericb, and all who desired enjoyed the privilege of a sail on the lake. re- turned about dusk, without a Single ac- cident or mishap having occurred to rear the pleasure of the day: BUSINESS CHANGE.—As will be seem by reference to. a notice in our advertise- ment columns, Messrs. Jas. P. Kendall and Martin Charlesworth have entered into partnership, and have purchased from Messrs. W: A. Shearson & Co., the Seaforth flouring mills.
