sold, this week, a car load of cheese for
103 cents per pound. This, we believe,
is the highest price which has been rea-

purchased for the English market, and
was shipped direct from. Seaforth.
TROTTING MATCH. — A matched trot-

Mr. Polley, of Goderich, takes place to-

FIRE —On Thursday morning, about
2 o'clook, a lire broke out in the woolen
factory of Messrs. Johnston & Bechtel,
of Zurich, which consumed the building
and cohtents, including a new set of ma-
chinery jus i put in. Loss about $4,000.
No insurance. Orign of fire unknown.
The proprietors of this factory are young
men who have been but a short time in
business, and by this sad calamity have
lost their all. Even the boiler of the en- -
gine was burst. Thete was also a con-
siderable amount of wool in the building
which had been left by patrons to be
• manufac' tured., and every pound Of this
• was lost. It is . not prcbable that the
factory will be rebuilt for some time, as
'the owners areautterly ruined. 'Had not
the wind been favorable, the entire vil-
lage could. scarcely have escaped de-
struction,- as- inosti of the buildings are
,of wood, ad the insufficient supply of
water at this season, rendered the fire
engine of comparatively little use. •

Clear and satisfactory statement
of his position towards Mr. Whitehead
tmetly and decidedly adopted the
of the Opposition party. At

g, there was a large raceting, coma
principally of Reformers, with a
hipkling of Conservatives. Many
a latter, we beliere, feel disposed
taa support Mr. Horton. At this meet-
ina.Mr..Horton delivered a most able ad-
dress, and his unassuming and unpreten-
tious manner ga.ined him a host of
staunch friends in this fine settlement.
The next Meeting Was held at Londes-
boro; on Saturday evening. Mr. Horton
and his friends were very agree -ably dis-
appointed at . the hearty reception they
received from the people -in this section.
It has heretofore been considered that
Mr. Whitehead would draw his strongest
support from this portion of the town-
- ship, but strange to say, that even here
not a man could be found to advocate the
claims of "Honest Joe." The meeting
at Londesboro *IA one of the most nu-
merously attended and best political
meetings that has ever be held in the
County duringthe present campaign, and
we ire glad to learn that all present
were .perfectly satisfied with- Mr. Hor-
ton's explanations regarding, his position.
The hearty reception which has been ac—
corded to Mr. Horton by the Staunch
and honest Reformers of Hallett, is, we
feel: convinced, but an aiigury of that
with.which he will meet in every muni-
cipality in the Riding. Mr. Horton is
