backs up and waits for some one to

A man in Bowling Green, Ky.,
bas trained his dog to carry a bank
note to market for meat. The re-
sult is, that whenever the dog is
liungry, he picks up a piece of paper

expecting a meal in return.
Blunders are very often made,
as for instaece : " The death of the
poor woman cammenced Yesterday,
and still continues, with as yet but
little satisfactory result." ° .

riage, and he came out to prepare a
home for her in Canada, bidding her
to bide until Itie had done so, when„
he would send for her. Itwas not
long until he did so, and she, but
too willing to come, met him at
either Hamilton or Toronto, when
they were quietly married. She
came to town shortly afterin the

The farmers in England ake be-
gining to _give way before the bold
stand made by the laborers. They
have raised wages from 11 and 12
shillings per 'week toJ4F and 15
shillings, but the Laborers' Union
still demand. 16 shillings,' and the
farmers will, probably have to give
way, as labor is very scarce, hun-
dreds of men having left the agri-
cultural districts for the towns and
the coal and iron districts. A con-
ference between the laborers and the
farineis is alertly to be held, at
which the subject will be fully dis-
cussed, and it is hoped some terms

broken by the ball of her antagonist.
She was 'carried off the field in a
swoon, and the other more fortunate

A Bigaraist in Brantford.
The Brantford Courier eontains
lengthy a.ceount of the case of a
young English woman. now stopping
at the hotel et. Mrs. Brown, in that
town, who has been made the un-
fortunate victim of the imposition of
an unscrupulous scoundrel. The
pArticulars are given as follows :--
About two months ago, a 'man giv-
ing his name as Edmund Bauldwell,,
a painter ty trade, came to work for
Mr. Noble. About a month after-
ward a youngi woman came to. the
shop where he was. at work, Saying
that she was his wife. He at once
acknowledged her, and they pnt up
at Mrs. Brown's, where they 'lived,
s.pparentl3r,, as happy as a couple
could wish to be. Their felicity,
however, Was not of long duration.
They had been there but a few days
when his first Wife, who had been
living in London, came to the front, I

at Fordwich, on the 15th inst., pursuant
to adjournment from last meeting, in
Mr. Ketehurn's hotel. The Reeve in the
chair. _Members all present. The mhrutes
of the last meeting were read. and sus-

Esq.„M. P. P., was read, and it was

grant Park Lot No. 17, in the town of
Fordwich, in said Township �f HoNeick,

Crown Lands Department, respecting the
Patent of Lot No. 1, .Con. 9, which yea'
ordered. to be filed. Mr. Bairn's applica-
