NEW YORK HORSE MARKET.
TUESDAY, p: 9, 187.
Conside * 1--- the advanced season, the
horse bear et could hardlyhave been
less sitisf tory'. At no corresponding
period, for many years pat, has the gen-
eral. supply ° of horsej been so liege, yet
inclement weather& rihg the earlier part
of the week restricted trade to k few
transactions in lowipriced draft -horses -
required for immediate use, and the
mild and bright days following did not
produce any great improvement' in the
general demand,. which, althoagh, some-
what increased, continued to be rconfined
chiefly to business horses with Moderate
sales at steady prices, yet not in stifficiefit
numbers as to reduce essentially the
largely accumulated stock of the latter
descriptor,,, LIM in the market. Sales
of pleasure horses recorded were: Two
pairs matched coach horses at $1,500 per
span, one pair at $1,250, 'three single
road, horses at an average. of 1500 per
-head,ind-a limited number of light har-
ness_ horses at from $250 to .$300 per
head.. Twenty-three head W stern
horses of average good quality hav been
shipped to Havana per .steamer Morro
Castle, intended for saddle -use of Span-
ish officers stationed at the island.

As will be seen by his pedigree, Sir Archy -is the
best blooded horse that is te-day in Canada, an&
hia ancesters are noted among the great hones of
sctinerics.
-Until recently, the therough-bred horse was ton-
sidered only adapted to the turf, but the prineipleAt
of breeding, as are new -wellesta.bliehed, assign Inns.
a far nobler sphere. It is now agreed that to
attain success in rearing any of the domestic
animals, the male mast be thorough -bred.
To produce tri
he cer, the trotting horse the
enaaanng horse -of -all -work, the spirited ro‘Ister
and carriage horse, the stallion 331lifit Itti thorough-
bred. With this cross, the heavy farra mare wil/
produce the noble coach -horse, the thorough bred. -
mare the race; and the trotting or paehig mare
will yield the trotter. Und.er this theory, I take
pride in offering "Sir Archy" to the breeders of
horses in this section of the country. As il stock ,
getter he is unrivalled; his steck is notedfor sound
constitntican, for great strength, docility of dis
sition and speed. "Sir Artily" is eight years old,
stands 16-1 hands.laigh, a beautiful iich bay, with ..
black legs, mime and tan, broad heavy quarters
and powerfully muscled, combining in an eminent
