THE MARKETS.
SE=
Nov.ORTH, A 23, 1871.
he markets this week look consider-
ably better. Fall wheat is slightly on
the rise. Spring wheat is quoted several
cents higher than last week. Both Fall
and Spring are'' now a very fair figure,
and we think that farmers would be fool-
ish to hold on for higher prices, The
markets are so fluctuating thilb season
that it is difficult
to
sa
what t
Y a
day
may bring forth. This being the case,
it might be most prudent to take a rea-
sonable figure when. offered, rather than
hold on and run the risk of losing. Bar-
ley is slightly better this week. Oats
.and peas are firm at the quoted figures.
There is "very little grain of any descrip-
tion ofering as yet. Butter is in good
demand at the quoted prices, and an ex-
tra article might obtain a shade higher.
`The pork season has now commenced, but
there has not been much brought forward
yet. Although the prices offered are not
so high as former years, the demand is
good, and all that comes into the market
is bought up readily. Hay is still in
good demand, with but little offering.
The prevalent prices are those quoted
below, although we have heard of some
loads which broufrht as high as fourteen
dollars. If sleighing should continue
the demand will become better supplied.
and the price will no doubt fall so
what. Those \\ lio have it to sell wo
do well to bring it forward. ' Tl
seems to be a prevalent feeling amen
sellers that it will be very scarce
.dear in the spring, and consequently
are holding back. \Vood ` is not sc
in the market, but all which has
come in has met with ready sale at
prices (looted. The following figu
