ANNUAL MEETING. --The annual meet-
ing of the Seaforth Mechanics' Institute

This is a go idea, and like all other
kiods of advertising will undouibtedly
pay well.
MAKING MoNEY.—An - enterprising
aeeident of our Couoty Town is making
a " small fortune " by driving hos to the.,
'Pound; at a dollar per head. We wish
he would pay Seaforth-an occasional
visit, as he would here find considerable
scope for his enterprise.

Club have secured_from Dr.,. Coleman, a
lease of the Race Course grounds,. fer •a
terra of years, and. will, in the future,
keep it suitably fenced, and in first class
• travelling order, so that it can he used
at any time, either for inatehes or
practice.
PINE WEATHER.—Now that the fine
weather has fairly set in, it is time to be
on the alert to ascertain °where the best

THE LONDON, HURoN AND BRUCE.—
Mr. Dyes, Engineer of the London, Hu -
yon and Brace Railway, was in town on
Thursday last, on his way North to com-
mence the permanent location of the
.route from Wingham, through the town-
ships - of Turnberry. Grey and Morris.

last, as Mr. John Henderson, of Mc-

means the rack slipped forward on ihe

to say,that

feeling of the people of Seaforth about as
well as the ew Ora or his 9 highest au-
thority," aid we unhesitatingly say that
either a Cou ty Bonus or a reasonable
Village Boniis Would carry in Seaforth
by a fair majority, and it will be kismet
when a vote is taken, that our statement
is substantially correct. In proof of this
we may state, that at a v?ry large meet-
ing of the ratepayers of Seaforth; helda
short time ago, a resolution favorable to
the schem.e was carried ! almost Unani-
monsly, an there are many who then
opposed it who Wotild now support it.

SIR,—The lovers of the Drama, are

— On one day last weak, says a well
infotmed. gentleman, amnia the thirteen
banks doing business in Montreal, there
were but two pieces of paper went to pro-
test. This speaks volumes for the satis-
factory condition of things at our largest
commerfial centre.
—We observe by the Brantford Ex-
poeitor that at the opening of the As-
sizes recently held in Brantford, the
Sheriff presented to ; Chief • Justice
lia.gartne ( f the Common. Pleas, a pair
of white kid gloves, there being no crim-
ina. cases On the," docket.
—The trial rei Cyrus Pickard, for the
Murder of Mr. McVanuel, of Nissouri,
has been put off till next assizes. Two
aff davits of the prisoner's insanity were
submitted by Mr. Horton as a reason for
the proceeding. On the other hand four
substantial affidavits are put in by Mr.
Becher, Crown prosecutor, against the
suaposition. The Court with the usual
leorencY in such cases, gave the prisoner
the advantage of the doubt created, and
pui the case over.
The Kingston News does not believe
Jolin A. has any intention of retiring
