As most of our readers aro doubt- less much interested in the great and fertile North-west Territory 'hich is now part and parcel of our awn Dorninion and as some may ,cren contemplate erctigratireg there, duri'sng the coming summer, the annexed description of the 'different routes may prove net only intereSt- mg but Useful. _First—A eatyr of 8 or ten young r rae4,. 0011 lc! go ,very economicalifin the following way, viz: By steamier froni Coltingwood to Thunder Bay • proeicuea canoe there and have it carted over a , short good road to ateraindOwan, unless it is 'found mere adrantaet-icous to. take a canoe xt the latter place. there being plen- ty lying idle which were used in the transportation of the troops. _An Indian guide would have to be hired, at a trifling expense, and the rierty wbuld paddle their own canoe through the chain of lakes and rivers which terminates at the north-west angle Of the.Lake cf the Weeds. There are -severat,. short portages on this. route over which the party would have to carry their canoe. From the Lake of the Woods to Fort Garry there is a road whiehc, could be either traversed on. foot, or in the carts Of .the half-breeds, or on horseback—either of which con- sseyance couti be hired very cheap. There will beb- small steamers on me.4 of the'small lakes and rivers this summer, and larger boats are irreparing tor theLake of theWoods ; but they will not be ready till the fall. This route would take prohably twenty -days from Toronto to -Fort Garry. Second—A faemer wishing to transport his family, could take his own waggon and team by propeller to Milwaukee, and thence travel by easy stages to St. Paul's, and from thence along the usual cart route, to Fort Garry. This would be a re- markably economical way of travel- ing, as the family could lodge in their covered waggon at nights bat it would take iree,4 of the sum- mer to accomplish the distance, Third—The North-west Emigra- tion pornpany of Tolonto, have ar- b-w ranee& a route holly by steamboat andrall, wbfaia will be very expe- ditions and bynomeans expensive. This roue is by rail to Collingwood, steamer to Duluth, rail to Brecken- ridge via St. Paul's. From Breok- enridge so Fort Abercrombie on the Red River is only 20 miles, .and from theralce the descent of the liver to 3Vinnipeg is made by steamer; or Indian carts by overland, a dis- tance of about 200 miles from Breck- enridge to 'Winnipeg. The through tickets from. Toronto to Fort, Garry by this route will, it is believed, be aud it is said already one thoussed are booked for it. Parties intending to 'go by this route, or any other, should apply for ip for tion to the Secretary of the North- west Emigration Society, Toronto, who will end.them a copy f the Socety's circular: s Pourth—The fourth route, -whioh, is the speediest, butthe clearest, is y rail throngh Detroit and Chicago, or Alitwankee, to St. Paul's and thence as in,. the preceding route.. The qUICS14011 WM, arise, however, " What, are the Prospects for obtain- ing land or employment on reaching fled River ?" and to this we can on- ly reply generally, tliat the increase of the population of-- the North-west must be very rapid and very great, and along with the immigrants there -will come in a large amount of money. There. will, doubtlesS, be need for all kinds. of mechanics and In oer, and. forstorekeepers, pro- fessional men, teachers, .etc., but tepecial y farrners. Remarkable Parrots: s ran- ts talk. It is said that one 'belonging to a-Cardival learned bo &by tl le A post' es' Creed ; but whether true or net, is is certain that, owing to the formAion of their lower pharynx and tongue, they are more capable than any other animel in the irnitsttion of man's voice. .They :bre celehretted by the oldest writers in this respect and by writers cf every countiT and langeage therefore, they have eetablished their chum' as lineuistg.
