Dr. Doran tells of a comical co-

And congregatioa of a West -of -Eng -

'rector and his curate both returned
to their duty, after a long absence,
upon the same day.. The curate
took the morning service, and
preached so well as to astonish his
hearers. In the evening, the Rece
tor, -who had officiated_ in a neigh-
boring parish in the morning, as-
cended the pulpit, and rather sin -
prised his flock by givinet'out the
same teat as his curate had chosen'
in the forenoon. Their surprise be-
-came puzzled wonderment when
they found it was not only the same
text, but the same sermon; and one
can imagine the horror of the listen-
ing curate. The fact was, rector
• and curate had each purchased some
lithographed set mons. and were so

Physiognomy -How to .Tell
Character.
• The face is an index to the char-
acter of most individuals. Large
fleshy men are more jofly and good-
natured than small one, and • dark
men are more*prone to melanchol3 Hag
than fair men. Frone the cradle
-onward to the grave, then and wo-
men have always been busy with
the study of physiognomy, and still
little has been done to analyze this
subtle art. Lavater and others
wrote ponderous volumes on this
subject, but when you have read
there, you feel that you _know- veryt
little about it. All their laws and
ruleste,ire full of exceptions. The
physiognomist begins wiLb the as-
sumption that a man's mind makes
the body. If it be a refined wind,
i5 builds for itself a refined- body ;
if it be a gross mind, tit selects a
gross body. Tall menl seldom get
angry. The fighting bullies are
gene -rally low -sized individuals. 'in
his face every man seenss, as it were,
to hang out Ids own sign -board, and
