Dr. Ormiston. --What ikey think
of Him in New York,
Rev. Dr, Ormistco, formerly of
Hamilton, who a • friar 'months ago
accepted a pastorate in Nevi' York,
seems toi be making -decided sensa-
-tion in that city. The following is
what the New York col reSpondent uf
the Chicago "Tittles" says of him :
He is our latest ecclesiastic attfac-
don, and is worthy of all the enthu-
siasms that are felt and' said. This
man's name is Ormiston, and he was
_ a Canadian 'by residence, brit a
Scotchman by birth, which gives to
ibis tongue the sweetest brogue- that
:was ever articulated. For Wooing or.
preaching there is nothing that will:
so perfectly & entirely take the heart
captive aa those) p sua.Live words
which a canny Scott -man knows so
well how-to use.
Dr. Ormiston -'s church. is at the
corner of Fifth avenne and Twenty-
ninth street., and its seats are not only
tilled, but all the passage ways with
chairs and stools, and many standing,
-without wearing,- so stimulating is
his eloquence, and so powerful are
his pagnetisms. Although 'be is a
` Presbyterian of some sort, he draws
his audience from the most.exclusive
as well as the most liberal of other
clenthnitations, and the most wonder-
ful part of the story is, that he in-
fatuates both men and women with
equal force._ The thoughts and ut-
terances of Dr. Ormiston are al Ways
reverent in respect to our sacred pre-
judiceswhile he teaches his hearers
to be nnworldly-4and that is an idea
which is refreshing in a New York.
.church, you know. He despises va-
`:.pity, and frivolity, and display,. He
-don't like the Waving of plumes in
front of his church altar. He tells
those who have prominent and costly
pews in the sanctuary, that if they
.tome and find the stranger, or the
poor, in them, to thank God that the
chmch has received them and find a
seat themselves W erelver they can,
.and be grateful that they have even
that privilege. ,
On Friday, he reads and expoundS
the Scriptures to the wornera—he
never says ladies, -a -and the house is
filled by eager faces, who are intent
upon finding the way of wisdom and
_spiritual lif: I inns(' tell you some-
thing of iris personality. He is tall,
very tall, sq are, and ungraceful,
but neither his height, -nor his figure,
nor yet his Motions arcest your at-
thntion when you look into his face
and listen to his delicious voice.
There is an honesty of u tterance with
which the soritnds harmonize, and
Make the sweetest of music., His
face and head suggest those peculiar
photographs of the moon that show
a light half which deepens into sha-
dow on the lower edge: His, head
is a high, smooth dome, around which
his hair frizzes_to a height equal to
that of his immense' _forehead, and it
radiates like a halo in every direc-
tion ; it is of extraordinarytexture,
suggesting a fleecy mass of crimped
wool, among which are the daintieat
touches of silver.
You watch him in his denuncia-
tory moods, and imagine that he is
one of the mills of the gods, and that
his words could grind you to powder.
At other times, he seems like an
earnest child, whose spirit has taken
possession of a giant, and was un-
changed in its Sweetness and tender-
ness by the huge body it lived in.
This is the man who sways the re-.
ligious spirit Of New York to day
_Whatever can come after hirrt thatis
wiser. sweeter, orgreater, of course
we don't know; but -this man will
stand to New York as one of its
spiritual Titans as long as memory
lasts,
Wonderful Woik of Surgery --

Face.
There lives in this city a young
lady aarned Lizzie Twine -ham. Some
years laabo, when she was but a young
girl, she was attacked with an ulcer-
ation of the face, which entirely des-
troyed her nose, upper lip and nearly
all the adjacent bones. By the time
ravages of the disease were arrested,
:she was the most hideous looking
being that was ever gazed upon.—
Her eyes and forehead were visible.
but in the place et lier nose and
mouth there was nothing but a large
unsightly bole, in which the raw and
purple 'flesh was visible away in the
throat. None could look upon her
N,vithout turning away in horror. -
Her parents -were poor, and .she was
compelled to leave home. She sought
labor, as she was able and willing to
work, hut her presence was so disa-.
greeable on account of the horrible
affliction, that she could not obtain
a situation. About four years ago
she found herself out of eniploynaent
and with no home. Shewas advise
to go to the Poor House. Despai
and wretchedness seemed to be her
lot. Shunned as.she was by society,
and abandoned by all, hi sensitive
nature was racked by torment, and
she seriously contemplated suieide.
Just at the tinit, a friend suggested
that probably Dr. Wright of this. city .
might be able to remedy her -defor-
mity and improve the appearance of
her face. With tears in her eyes,
and with but faint hope, she called
upon him. At first th e doctor thought
