Very great difficulties were encountered at the outset, in the shape Of boulders, etc.,- which !led a very retarding effect. On the llth inst , however, the drill was set to work in real earnest, since which time every -thing has gone on like a charm, and at time of writing a depth, of over 200 feet, has been attained:. Mr. McEwen informs us that the surface, was 36 feet 111 thicen' ess, and was composed_ of clay, clay and boulders, gravel, andebeulders. The rock has, so fax, been found to be pre* uniform, varying only a little in color. , The contract for the .1)oilieg shed, for thesc -works, is lee, and is to be completed by the 1st of Deamber riext. THE BAND. —In accordance with the advertise- ment, a meeting were held in the Town: Hall, i Seaforth, on Wedeesday evening last, for the Purpose of oreenizing a Union l'ita443, between Seaforth andeegmendville ; and; we are pleased to know, the attempt resulted very sa,tisfactcaily.
