Parties of Frond' half-breeds are muster-
ing about St. Joseph and Pen3bina, threat-
ening the boats descending Red River.
Capt. Cook's company, Ontarie Battalion,
has ')eeri sent to camp near Pembina. to
protect Government and other parties com-
ing down. Great uneasiness prevails in
this Settlement lest the Fl end) commit any
overt acts and a general tow ensue. Lieut.
Butler, of the 69th Regiment, goes to Pem-
bina to ascertain the position of affairs at
that iilace.

via ST. CLOUD, Minn., Oct. 6.
Lepine, Riel's Adjutant -General, has
Been shot at Pembina by a man whose wife
• he had seduced. James Boss' new house
has been burned down, it is supposed by an
incendiary. Col. Jarvis and Capt. Herchi-
mer have left for New York and Canada
respectively.
The corner stone of the new Canada Pres-
byterian Church at Port Elgin was laid on
the 30th ult. by the Rev. A. Fraser, pastor
of the congregation. The weather was in-
clement, but a large number of spectators
attended. -
The dreaded vomito has spread to Alican-
te, and the citizens are flying from the place
in terror.
Samatanen, the "man of promise," •a
young Indian, was ordained a priest of the
A Roman Cathclic Church in the village of
Lorette, near Quebec, on Tuesday, with
grand
ceremonies.Ire ta.ks the name of
-Vincent, and is said to he the first red man
made a priest.
The next Provincial Fair is to he held at
-Kingston. At the last Annual_ Meeting
-attawa wrought hard for the lionor but was
-defeated on a vote of 77 to 51.
The verdict of the Naval Committee of
Enquiry into the loss of the iron -clad Cap-
tain exonerates everybody connected with
her construction and management.
