London, `Aug. 30.-50,000 risen left
Paris on Monday for the vicinity of Rethel.
it is said the Prussian force there is 500,-
000 strong.
Brussels, Aug. 30. --Belgium troops are;
hastening to the frontier from alr'quarters•
A great -battle is apparently imminent, and
the services of 'Belgium troops will no doubt
,be necessary to protect thecountry from in-
vasion. The investment of Londeby by
Prussians is denied. McMahon's head-
quarters are at Sedan
New York, Aug. 30.—Private despatch-
es dated Loncton,'A.ug. 30, a. ui., says that
there has been. more or less fighting for 48
hours, with serious. losses on both sides.
The fighting as .rear as can be learned has
beenina woody region extending for sever-
al miles.
Carlsrube. Aug. 30.—The Gazette of this
city has the following :--Last evening the
'Bishop of this city, actuated by the desire
to stop the diffusion of blood, undertook to
-firing about some sort of truce or mediation.
With this view he wet to ticlilliingheim
and bad an interview with Major Lechzins-
ky, Chief of the Piusssian Staff.` He urged
that the bombardment was contrary to the
laws of humanity, gaud modern warfare. The
inhabitants had been denied to withdraw
from the city. The Bishop obtained coven-
ty-four hours cessation of bonibarcinnent
order to --give the Governor of Strasburg an
• opportunity to negotiate. The Governor
was accordingly invited to come out and ex-
amine prepnrat-ons which had been made
by the Prussians for continuing the seige.
As Major Lechzinsky escorted the Bishop
back to Strasburg, his flag of trtrce9,was rid-
dled with bullets. The bombardment con-
tinues with guns of largest calibre, and the
surrender of the city is a mere matter of
time.
Frankfort, Monday night.—Great dam-
age has been done to Strasbourg ; the rrin-
cipnl street is in ruing. A shell fell on the
Roman Catholic Girls' School, killing seven
and wounding four. After the German In order to make room for WINTER WORK,

habitants that have escaped_frorn Strasbourg
report dreadful suffering there. Potatoes
are 20 francs (about $4) per lb., and ocher
things in proportion. Horse' flesh is the
only meat. The beseiging force is constant-
ly increasng, and, their loss is trifling.
A Paris correspondent writes Monday :
The G-uarde-Mobile camp has just broken
tip, the troops having gone to join McMa-
hon.
Dispatch's from Berlin to Foreign Lega-
tion says :—Seven Prussian corps number-
ing at least, 24,000 men each have left.
The Crown Prince of Saxony is pushing for-
-ward. with 110,000 men, and the Crown
Prince of Prussian with -130,000.
Paris, Aug. 30, midnight. --The follow-
ing official news just promulgated by the
Minister of the interior. The march of
Prussians on Paris seems arrested. McMa-
hon continues bib movement. 'There has
been no serious engagement yet. Chalons
is evacuated entirely by the Prussians.
Railroad trains go freely now as far as
Rheims. The National guards of the Seine,
Maine and Aisore, are organized to offer a
vigorous resistance. A person who left
Strasbourg on Friday last says, one part of
the town suffered much, hut the' gars son
was supplied with plenty of provisions and
munitions of war, &c., and citizens are de-
termined to resist.to the last.
London. 31i--Tlbe Standard reviewing
the situation says:—The Prussians are
strong around Rheims, while in Metz, num-
Ilsrs of them have passed northward. - It is
impossible to say whether the report that
the King is moving on Paris with a heavy
force., is true or not.
Paris, 31.—The Moniteew Rays, persons
from Mezieres affirmed that a -battle occurr-
ed on Saturday. Our informant saw Prus-
sians retreating. There were great num-
bers of stragglers.
Brussels, 31.—Marshal Bazaine is 'still
cooped up. The German army have been
ordered to camp as far as possible from the
ten met in the middle of -the bridge } the
Frenchman looked at the Prrssisiil, and the
Prussian looked at " the Frenchman, and
each ,: without- saying a word, retraced his
steps; : Indeed, there is no exampleof these
slaves to discipline boxing ever offered each
other a°pinch of snit: One, evening last
week, says a French paper; the Prussian sen-
tinel was suddenly heard calling, "to arms !"
The frightened bystanders ran up and
found that the French sentinel had acciden-
tally placed his foot beyond the line of de=
marcation, and thus invaded Prussian ter-
ritory.

Its merits are manifold, and its works produced
as if by Magic, by such simple and novel mechan-
ism seems truly wonderful. The public have be-
come heart sick trying new Churns, but here is a
thing of mefit, palpable to all; and in introduc-
ing it he kno`vva that he is asking public attention
to a perfect thing where perfection is possible -
it has no fault. This is no ordinary invention, .
but one of vast merit, importance and usefulness.
A careful eamination is called for. 'A candid
expression of opinion is asked, that its adoption
may be speedy and universal.
The Dominion Churn will be on exhibition at
