The Byron Eitor r..
At' last an end has been put to the

to Mrs. 'Leigh by Lady Byron at the

ELECTRICITY. --Th A view long en-
tertained by sone. American scientists
regarding electricity" is similar to ih It
expressed by the Rev. Father Sccchi of
}tome, in a letter auldr ssed to 4. F.
Maize, at Turin, the following e wract
from which appears in the Paris Les
Mondes:—"I believe that the true
theory .of electi icity. will result from
the pr'illcinle that electricity is not a
motion, but a change of the quantitive
and dynamic equilibrium of the ether
whiclf constitutes the atom of the sub-
stances, and that tyle propagation of
such a change is brought about uy -the
moving of the ether from one atony
to another.; this motion shakes, distort bs
theefher of the atoms, and thus pro -
'daces heat."

The pool' pi (:ter stl ickesn Occident leaps
lamely through a sarcasm as follows:—
" Great are ye, oh Scientists! So great
that serious aapprehnr signs are created,
lest iii tl e compensations of nature the
loss of your caudal extremities under
the friction of science should be reveng-
ed upon . your heads by the gr'woth of
asinine appendages." The reverned
editor was evidently swiepy---Lin a state

that inir•ely secular flip flap than a lu-
natic frog for projecting himself franti-
cally against, a stone wail.—,S'acn. Fran-
