paper is respo; sible for the following
curious story. VOA L., formerly Meck-
lenburg Minister of Finance, died not
long ago in Wisbaclen leaving no airect
descendants; his weelth going to a1 lot
of unthankful relatives. The Grand
Dake of Mecklenburg sent some per
sons to look after the transportation, of
the corpse to the family vault ie 'blessed'
Mecklenburg ; and on its arrival at the
family- mansion it was placed in state,
and on the day appointed for.the burial
the residents of the estate assembled- to
pay the last homage to their oid lord;
rnd'to a number of per ons was allot -
led the task of bearing tne cffion to
the vault. The latter however, as soon
as they stood by the side, of the coffin,
refused, as with one. tongue to move it,
saying 'Nay are will first know what is
in the coffin.' Remonstrance was vain.
Nay. that is not our master;they said ,
4:se was much larger.' Finally the coffin
had to be opened then and there, and
behold, it was found to contain not the
old Finance Minister.but an aged un
known lady. Of course astonishment
in such a case was natural, mad immed-
iately inquired into. It appears that an
old gentleman and a wealthy Russian
lady landowner died at Wiesbaden on
the sarae day, and, both being sent home
for burial, tiv some inexPiicahle error
the good old Mecklenburg Finance Min-
ister was. shipped off to the interior of
Russia somewhere, and the Russian la-
dy arrived at Mecklenburg, and would
have been buried there, but for the a
cuteness of the peasants. .A t fi rst Von.
L.'s relatives wanted to keep tbe matter
quiet, and just inter the body, but the
old gentleman's retainers said :` The
strangewoman shall not be buried in
our master's vault.' Nor was she. Whe-
ther the Mecklenburg Finance Minister
has been buried with all the pomp of a
