that the, ClintOn Band did not enter

of their best performers were absent.
Whether the protest will be entertain -

THE SEAFORTH -EXPOSITOR.
AccIrthvr.-We are sorry to leant
that upon the night of the 4th inst,
when our friend Dr. Campbell of this
place was returning from visiting some
of his patients, 6 miles, forth of the
town, his horse which was a young one
took.fright at some real or imaginary
object and made in effort to run away,
in which howe-ter it did not altogether
41.19ceed but. dioi succeed in bringing his
hind feet rather forcibly agaiest the
Doctor's right leg, and for sometime
afterwards the Dr. "says the unmanner-
ly brute caused its hind feet, to take a
somewhat eccentric ,course." The Dr.
stopoed the animal's mad co reer by run-
ning it into the fence, and his own
career was also stopped for the right,
he having to stay over in a neighbour-
ing house. Carrying out the ihjunc-
don contained in the old • 'maxim.
"Physician, heal thyself." We are very
sorry to rind from conversation vvith the
Dr. that he entertains, since this mis-
hap; a rather low opinion of the
moral characters ef horses in genpal,
and of his own ungrateful brute in par-
ticular.
The Market Difficulty'
In view of some defects in the Mar-
• ket By -Law, a meeting of the ratepay-
ers of this place was cs:lled on Monday
evening last, to take an expression as
to their. willingness to effect a settle-
ment with the Clerk -and his sureties,
and thereby prevent further litigation
on the matter.
• Their proposition to the Council, as
set forth by; the Reeve, was, that in ad=
dition to the amount already paid 'into
the treasuky by the Clerk, they pay
$160, (making in ell about $630,) and
in consideration of which, they be re -
lased from all further obligations and
have their bond delivered up, giving
their notes for sixty days for tlie
amount.
So far as the 'amount of settlement
was concerned the meeting appeared
to be 'pretty agreeable .to accepting,.
but the majority took to- the opinion -
that the bund should not oe delivered
up by the Council, till such time as the
actual casli was reeeived, which, after
-
a rather warm discussion, pro and con,
was manifested by the dividing of the
house.
P: S. -Since the above was in type
the terms proposed at the ineeting
have been accepted by the Market
aerk's sureties, hence legal proceedings
are to be stayed on both sides. ,

did got content • himself. with making
assertions without proof,but he chal-

have been earned oh in some of our

forth is one of the highest taxed muni-

refer to this matter again, will they
please add, that -Seaforth pays all its

however an idea afloat to*create a sink-

which, if carried into effect, would re-

We are strongly, inclined in favor of
the idea of this course, as by it, new
