THE BA.13Y'S DRAWER.
By MRS. I. T. BUTTS.
There's a little draw-er in my chamber
Guarded with tenderest cafe.
`Where the dainty clothes are lying,
• That, my darling shall never wear.
And there. while the hours are waning
Till the house is all at rest,
si-t and fancy a baby
Close t my aching breast.
My darling's pretty, white garments!
1 wrought thein, sitting apart, •
Wahle his mystic life was ebbing
finder my throbbing heart. •
And often my happy dreaming
Breaks in.a little song, .
Like tne murmur of birds at brooding
When the days are W3-1Ta and long.
I finished 'the dainty wardrobe,
And the drawer was almost full
With robes of the finest muslin,
And robes of the whitest wool,
I folded them., all together,
:With a rose for every pair,
Smiling, and saying, "Gem fragrant,.
Fit for the prince to weal,"
Ah, the raident Summer morning,.
So full of the mothers joy!
"Thank pod, he is fair and perfect, •
• My beautiful, new-born boy."
Let him wear the pretty white garments
I wrought while sitting apart;
Lay him so sweet, and- so helpless.
Ilere, Gibs° io my throbbing heart.
Jan y and irra,ny evening
I sit, siuce my baby cam,
Saying, “What do the angels call him?"
For he died without a name;
Sit while the hours are waning,
And the houFie, is all at rest,
And fancy a babinestling,
Clos'e to my aching breast.

'on. The display in this line was real-
ly magnificent. Commencing at one end
of the grand array, was Graham -Wil-
liarasen's exquisitely finished, second
Provincial Peize plough. Next came
those of the celebrated Gray ,make,
one of those taking the first prize. We
observe that Mr. Gray toox no less than
four first prizes' in different articles of
this nature. 'In wooden plows, Graham
.Wiliittrason and R RUnCilliari were ex-
tensive • exhibitors. Thomson & Wil-
liams, of Mitchell, bad on hand a
•large assortment of their manufactures,
including straw cutters, fanning milk
ploWs, etc. Amongst the excellent
heavy waggons we noticed those manu-
ftettued by Ru, d & Fulton, and T. Hill,
of Egmondville. .McNaught & Teeple,
of the village of Seaforth, and
Rumball & Leslie, and Cantelon Bros.,
of Clinton. In carriage work the most
attractive -appeared to be that of aur
townsmen Messrs McIntosh & Morri-
son, Who had on exhibition a very the
ly constructed and -finished double car-
riage and buggy; the trimming On both
of vehicles was really excellent.
Messrs Rumball J5 Leslie, and Cante-
lon Bros., of Clinton. were both exten-
sive exhibitors in this WaV. Two
double carriages of lite W. Grassie's
make, of this place, were the subjects of
many very favorable corn ments. in pumps
tliose of Willi:Anis Bio 's, appeared to
stand alone, but their many recom-
mendatory qualities, cloubtlesa made
up for 'the. absence of others. • Two -
horse bay forks were operating. P.
Grant's of Clinton, and W. lir Scott was
exhibiting one • of. a Gatt make
&Rh appeared to have its esfiecial admir-
ers, and certainly both appeared to be
worthy.
HORSES.
The display in this line was most
et editable. In rio department did there
appear to be any meagreness. Every
good point of a horse was noticeable in
all elasseas We, cannot' particularize
on the Ya.rious exhibitois, but further
on this mattei- we would refer our read-
ers to the prize list.
CATTLE.
Many competent of expressing an
or inion tell us it was .here, tha:, the
show• was, par exed16iax: We at least
know that Most, excellent animals were
noticeable.
SHEEP.
The va,rions breeds of Lecisters, Cots-
wolds, and South- Downs were all well
represented. Lecistets appeared to be
the fevorites, as will he seen bv the
prize list. H. Snell carried off an im-
mense number of prizes in this line. C.
Da.':-,, A. Go enloek's, Hugh Love'saud
otbers were the subjects of
very faveable oniments.
SWINE.
In this line the predominancy was in
all oddeawith the Suffolks. A few
Berkshires, and still fewer of the Jaeger
• breeds wert noticeable. One monster,
hewever, not competing, attracted much
attention ; some estireatee that it would
°weigh nearly 1,000 lbs ; to whom it
belonged we, could not ascertain. John
Copeland took quite a number of privet
lind 'certainly, judgieg from the appear-
ance of his stock, he deserved diem all.
POULTRY.
This depariment as a.bout the only
one that wa8 really poorly filled, 'as it
nertninly. was, SOIDo things however,
that were entered herein were very
(steed. •

THE HALL.
This was the ereat centre of • attrac-

was oriwded with eager spectators.
THE GROUND FLOOR.
Was occupied with the GRAIN; of
the samples were most creditable
c)th 111 quautity and quality, VEGE-
CABLES -.Aid] were abundant io adl the
orenetry vartetees, and excellent in
every ease, DAIRY PRODUCE including
some rare cheese, and fine samples al
initsci• fresh and paceed. Along one
side of the building a display of cook-
ing stoves with gorgtous furniture
whi toek the fiist prize at the Pro -
vi c•ii 'Fair, and exhibited by Mr.
Kidd attra,ted considerable notice.
els the, door, we also observed' some
very title work in the way of -Venetian
ehsels, doot•s, ete., from the factory of
Broadfoot & Gray.
POOR COPY
UP STAIRS.
If the ground floor was attractive,
That to say of this we know riot Here
_was an index of the taste, the skill and
the handiwork of the population of our
county. In the finer pioductione of
the soil such as fruit and flowers- the
collection was, 'to use a mild ex preseion,
choice. Apples, peaches, , plums and
pears were so dose akin in roint of ex-
• cellence that to particularize would be
folly, The grapes exhibited by It. Go-
venlock were very worthy of there pro-
ducer, but the sixteen varieties of Mr.
Rope' of Goderieh were most luscious.
One of the long show tables , las (To' a
ed with a number of bottles of do-
mestic wine of various kiuds, Mr. A
G. Van Egmond being the ptincipai
exhibitor in this -way, tbongh Mr.- R.

THE SUCCESS.
The atteedence last day is estimated
at something near 5,000. The receipts
of admission am n tinted to about $372.
We reg et, however, to hear in
several instances, expreSsiens of diesat-
isfaetion as to tbe awards of the Judges.
