THE SEA.FORTH EXPOSITOR.
A SAD SiTeTA0LE.---During the
early part of this week, a man who
appeared to be totally berefit of I
reason was, rambling -up and down the
streets, indulging in soliloquies, with-
out the shadow of common sense, lectur-
ing tojhose who gathered around him
on all manner of subjects at the same
timetand disordering things coming in
his Way. From what he said, it might
be inferred that he is recently from
England, and by the general tone of
his talk, he appeared to be the subject
of a, religious inonamania. It isa pity
that suer' unfortunate individuals, were
not take ii in. charge in all cases, ° and
put in some place of safe keeping at
once; thus often preventing very sad -
catastrophes to themselves and others.

• In general improvement; the Town-
ship of Usborne is not behind any other
section of the country with which we
are acquainted. Every farm is not
only occupied andclearedof all unne-
cessary timber, but gives evideneeipf
careful, cidtivation aud gleat produet •
ivenest. in all parts of the Townehip
the stumps • and other hindrances to
thorough cultivation are rapidly disap-
pearing, se that now reaping machines
are in elmest universal use, where five
years ago such implements were not,
and ,coUld not, be employed. But a
still more noticeable - evidence of im:
provement and wealth is found in the
-great nanaber of new boildirgs of vari-
ous kiwis lately nompleted, or in course
of erection: From almost any point,
half a dozen new barns and dwelling
heuses may be counted.. White briek
seems to be the favourite material for
building, though there are also some
fine sone and frame houses.
• In the midst of all this attention to
private interests puolic improvements
are net n.egiected. The roads as a gen-
eral thing are in excellent condition
for ti avel ; not only the public thorough-
fanes, but also th e concessions by
means- of statute labor, and judicious
grants from the Council, have been to
a large extent gravelled. Several large
school heuses, brick, frame or stone,
have been built "and are all furnished
with the latest improvements. The
Bible Christians have built a neat and
commodious brick church on the Thames
Road, provided with a basement and a
furnace for heating, which is a great
improvement on. the ordinaty method
in the country of heating churches by
means ca stoves. On the opposite cor-
ner the Presbyterians have lately erect-
• ed a very fine manse ; the building is
two stoly and furnished throughout in
first class style, at a costa' over r,000.
Also the Wesleyns in Exeter, are
building a Splendid church which will
be, when completed, the fin -est edifice
in this district. The wet season has
delayed the work to some extent, but
•the builders are now pushing it forward
vigorously.
CROPS,—The appearance of the crops
in this Township is excellent. Har-
vesting operations are now nearly cem-
,pleted. Fall wheat, which seems to be
the staple, is a good crop, perhaps
above the average.' .The.favorite kind
seems to be the Treadwell. Oats are
very heavy. Barley good, .but some-
thinginjui ed ii. color by the rain. Peas
are spoken of as a failure, seeming to
ha,ve suffered more from the moisture
than any other grain. Potatoes seem
to be going very fa.s'.; with the rot; sortie
say a third is. Oready gone. , If they
continue to rot at tis rate very few
will be left for another use.
ON Friday last' at a threshina in
