London, . This Morning's

Canadian mattets. The writ6.saysi_._
There are pi ouabilities of a change in.
relations between Canada _and. Great
Britain which would be, distaateful to
the majority of the inhabitants of the
Detaitiona-i; they Fere cansaltecl. if
there is any disatisfactioni with the ex-
isting state ot) affairs it . is only by
feeling that ,tve an sak1y make it
intelligible ki those south of the fron-
tier.- All that can be do#e under the
present Government is to repudiate the
notion that a withdraw1 of the troops
implies a desire to shuffle out of the
responsibilites cast on Gi.eat Britain
by the presence of a flag in ministra-
tion. England is now in the hando of
those who fail to appreciate the Can-

it may be for Spain to accept the sug-
gested solution of the Cuban difficulty,
there is mo other plan possible; it is
a -
the only way for !Spain to save some
fragments ofthe alreck. Thevalue and.
duration to Cluba,n independe-nee 'under
the-trot:calm of America it another
question. The dosire to =absorb, which
is the character of the Americans,
qualities them very badly to perform
the part of a protector. It is very prca
bable that behind the compromise they
are trying to bring about a second edi-

COMMODORE VA.NDERBILT .M.ARRIES A
MOBILE LADY AT THE TECUMSEH

charged as & complimentary salute.
This is the third time the gay old'
commodore has taken unto himself • a
wife.
The secrecy, with which ...the *hole
affair was conducted would lead td the
belief that the Railway Monarch feared
to face the bantering which he would
inevitably be subjected to byhis friends
and the public were facts known before-

Something Worth Reading.
The success that has attended the
faithful and intelligent study of Photo-
graphy has been so great, that one can
get their own image pernAtuated.to pos-
tedty-. It is a great privilege to have
a good practical Artist, one who thor-
oughly understands the business, as al-
so one who is stationary in a place, to
whom you can go with confidence, with
the assurance of not getting disappoint-
ed in getting a correct, artistic, faithful
likeness, and from -whom you can get
pictures at ay fature time from the
negatives once taken. The days are
past for those who drop down fora
week or two and ai-e off again, having
no interest at stake, aid caring very
little whether their custorners are pleas-
ed or aot, they are off; but not so: with
our Old Established and thoroughly
practical pnotographer,Frank Paltridge,
who stands to -day the ackn-owledged•
head and leading Photographer in this
section of the country. He is • a real
live man, up to every -wrinkle in the
business; is very obliging ; and has
rooms, accommodations ,and facilities
for executing woik seldom met. He
has rooms and apartments for every-
thing. Good pictures cannot be made
where the funias of so many different
chemicals come in immediate contact
with each Other, and • producing gasses
fatal to making, iood 'pictures. His
rooms are in Scott's Byick Block, near
Sharp's Hotel; and under the EXPOSI-
TOR 0ffi.C9/--cool in summer, warm in
winter, jwitti: dressing rooms, so that
you Call bring your best clothes in. a
satchel and change to get your picture
taken. Frank Paltridge also keeps
'the negative, and no fear of losing the
picture of some near and dear friend.
His best work is not at the door? but
up stairs, one flight, and turn to the
right ha,nd, where yoa will find Frank
always at home and in good temper.
All picturesshown are• of his own
make, and not bought or borrowed to
decoy the puulic. He guarantees satis-
faction or no pay. Just -walk up to
Frank Paltridp.',e's Gallery; his'6peci-

will be sure to see some person's pictai'e
you know. . If you don't wa!nt your pic-
